We have stayed here often over the years in a bungalow and it is one of the better camps in the Kruger. It is peaceful and the shop is well stocked for daily essentials such as milk, bread, ice, charcoal, cooldrinks etc. We always self cater and take our own provisions, meat and drinks with us. The kitchen has limited utensils and it is difficult to see which switch is for which plate on the hob. The outside braai area does not have lights so a headlamp or torch is a must.
Reception staff were pleasant, the room and shower toilet clean. The bushbuck, squirrels and bird around the bungalows just add to the tranquility.

The bungalow was basic but everything worked, including air con as was very hot and humid. Nice setting with Bushbucks wandering about. The room was clean although basic but really just needed somewhere to sleep. The staff were helpful and shop reasonably stocked, good game viewing in surrounding area.

Room Tip: Suggest perimeter room as overlooks trees and shaded area.

Just average campsites. The plus was that they had a few picnic tables at the camping area, which was useful for those who didn't carry their own gear (read - us). However the camping sites are not private at all, braai facilities are made from old car wheels and some of them have holes from rust thus cannot be used.
Bathrooms and kitchen facilities clean however very basic.

We stayed 3 nights in one of the rondavels. The accommodation is excellent, the kitchen is well equipped and the braai well illuminated. The setting is lovely with bushbuck grazing on the lawns under the shade of the magnificent old trees. We had good sightings of lion and leopard and watched a a couple of spotted hyena who were keeping guard over a playful group of tiny young ones.

Enjoyed a night in one of the tents, which was very well equipped and spacious; even had towels. Bathroom and showers were nice and clean. There was virtually no one on the site when we were there, we even had the whole terrace of the restaurant to ourselves. Food was good, but service is quite slow, even when you're the only one around lol. Ideal for bird watchers as there are quite a lot of birds passing by the river. And if you want to see bushbuck, it's your lucky day. The camp is packed with them. Just approach them slowly and they won't even run. Had a relaxed time!

Room Tip: Don't bother with rooms. The tents are really nice!

Due to a change of plans we stayed one night at Letaba, the rooms are basic but there is normally aircon. Outside there is a smal kitchen area with a Fridge. The check in staff were extremely friendly and efficient, the restaurant offers a smallish menu but the food is cooked well, the personell are friendly and have a good sense of humour. There is an emergency car repair center just 2 km's down the road if you require mechanical assistance.

We camped at this location so I will only comment about the campground. The bathrooms and cooking facilities are fine. The restaurant was ok and we thought the meals were reasonably priced. We noticed that the service at all the restaurants we visited in Kruger National park was curteous but very very slow. If you are in a rush it is really best to bring your own food or save the eating out for dinner when the gates of the camps are closed and you can't do any more driving around the park.
The campground was large and clean but it lacked any kind of privacy. It was very dusty and they do not assign campsites so you go in and find a place. This is not ideal since by the time we got there we could not find any sites with power which we paid extra for. Very dusty and as I said you get the feeling of being surrounded by people. Not the kind of camping experience we prefer, but if you have no choice this is not a bad place. The campground is a good place to see birds and some smaller animals.
If returning to this camp would definitely prefer to stay at a hut or cottage and save the camping for reserves or other parks that may have a more private and less dusty arrangement for campers.

The idyllic Letaba Rest Camp is situated on a sweeping bend of the Letaba River, midway between the southern and northern boundaries of the Kruger National Park. The name means "river of sand", and the sandy riverbed is an excellent location for game viewing, particularly elephant, which thrive in the area. Letaba is a green oasis in the surrounding mopane veld, and remains a firm favourite with visitors. At night the stars overlook a symphony of sounds. Owls, nightjars, frogs, fruit bats, crickets and cicadas all vie to be heard, until the lion roars, then all are silent. ... more   less
