My family and I stayed at Shishangeni Lodge during December and had the most wonderful experience. From the minute we arrived until we left, we were treated like royalty. The rooms were large and well appointed with outside shower and even a door that opens straight from the bath - over looking the bush. Our two children (9 yrs and 12 yrs) were well received and enjoyed the swimming pool and tv room.
The food was outstanding and well prepared. The staff were always ready with a smile. Our guide on our afternoon drive, Simon, went out of his way to ensure we had the best game viewing and we managed to see two male lion.
The lodge is easy to located from the Crocodile Bridge entrance into the Kruger Park.

We spent a few days at Shishangeni which is a beatiful lodge, with friendly staff who try to make stay as pleasant as possible.
Our only concern is that for a 5 star lodge, there are some things that is not in place : all arriving guests get treated by washing and drying their hands (in one bowl with the same water and with the same cloth!!), we were booked into our rooms while the walkway was being stripped of old varnish...very noisy and dusty. We thought that as the lodge was not fully occupied, they could have booked us into a room on the other side, far from where they have to touch up. When you are in the Kruger, and pay that amount of money, you do not want to be waken up by workers and their noise. We could not even use the swimmingpool, as they were working there as well.
The food is good, except that for one evening when there was not enough meat for all the guests. Do not understand this... they know exactly how many people are booked and the staff do the dishing up as well, so nobody could over-induldge?

Other than that, the place is very clean, the game drives are good and the staff is efficient.

Shishangeni is a big lodge with quite a few rooms, hence quite a few people staying in there high season. So the lodge feels a bit impersonal. Breakfast buffet was very good while lunch and dinner were average. Staff was helpful but could be more attentive.

The gamedrives we had with Kenneth were excellent!!

Rooms very nice and clean.

We stayed at the Shishangeni lodge for 3 nights in July and loved every minute of it. The game drives were obviously the best part, and our ranger, Simon, took requests as to which animals were our favorites and if we wanted to take various alternate routes to see different regions of the park. He was a fantastic guide and knew more about each animal we saw than we could imagine. The service throughout was impeccable, including hot towels whenever we returned from a drive and continuous food service (snacks before each drive, snacks during the drive, three full meals…). The rooms were also a highlight. We were initially skeptical of the outdoor showers but in the mid day sun, being outdoors turned out to be a treat. We saw all of the big five (and then some) and could hear the hippos from our room! Giraffes and ververt monkeys evenjoined us for lunch one day. The dinners were not the strong point of the lodge and while plentiful, we felt that the cook wasn’t too familiar with western desserts. All in all it was an amazing trip!

We’ve been to quite a few game lodges before but this was really not up to standard. They didn’t serve cocktails at the bar and for a 5star rating I think that is very bad. When you look on the website you see all these meals and on the game drive there is lovely refreshments but when you get there you get ‘n bowl of nuts? The game drive was very nice but nothing was well organised. The people were friendly but we didn’t feel we got the respect of a valued guest. Overall the place looks very nice but there are some small things. I can’t see how they rate it a five star.
