Farm style hospitality with clean, spacious cottages, they also have rondavels.

We felt comfortable here and enjoyed the breakfasts as well as a good pizza dinner in their own restaurant. We also had a very good dinner at the acclaimed lodge/restaurant Bingalela at the edge of Bergville, about 30 min drive away.

Tower of Pizza is near to the entrance to the Royal Natal Park, which offers a great number of hiking trails in the famous Amphitheater area. It is also close other resorts, such as Montusi, Alpine Heath, Hlanathi, etc. but charges a fraction of their rates.

We stayed at this B&B/pizza restaurant for three nights while doing day hikes in Royal Natal Park.

Pros: The food is great. Breakfast was really nice and they had excellent homemade jam for the toast on offer, some of the best we found in Africa. For dinner, there is always excellent pizza to choose from and great selections on offer. We stayed at one of their two large guesthouses and it was fantastic. Heaters and blankets were provided for the cold and they had some nice amenities if you wanted to make tea or coffee in the room. This is an excellent location to sleep at if you plan on visiting the Royal Natal Park and do dayhikes. There are limited restaurants in the area so if you stay somewhere else you will undoubtedly be directed by the locals to stop here for at least one meal and it's well worth it.

Cons: They only take cash so if you live and die by your credit card this place can be very inconvenient. We strove to try and not carry large sums of cash to pay for things in SA and staying here didn't help that effort at all. The staff isn't particularly friendly either, I won't say that they are rude but you can tell that they want to be anywhere else but working at the Tower of Pizza. The internet service in the area is spotty so don't count on using the internet to book your following accommodation property.

The cons are minor and the pros make this place a great place to visit. I would go there again.

Room Tip: Pay the extra bit and stay in the larger bungalows if you can, it's well worth it.

We chose to stay here because it was just outside Royal Natal Park, provided breakfast and had a restaurant - it was perfect. While the staff are cool towards customers, they were at least competent and efficient. The rondavaals were beautiful inside, comfortable, spotless and with piping hot water and a heater, plus tea/coffee, a fridge, and in the modern bathroom there was shampoo & towels. Breakfast was generous (inc in the tarrif) and tasty, and the pizzas for dinner just fantastic. We met one of the owners over breakfast and he was especially friendly and nice. It suited our needs, and that of our 3 year old who loved to run on the lawn and watch the horses. It was a short and beautiful & interesting drive to the national park, which has gates that close at dusk and open in early morning.

We stayed in one of the little houses (only 50 rand more expensive than the rondavels) which was really lovely and spacious. Nice view, nice location close to the Royal Natal National Park.

Restaurant was nice but cold. Not open on mondays during low season. Owner is really kind, the others were really unfriendly and not service minded at all.

I would still recommend this place for the room, the view and the pizza.

Our rondavel was nice and clean, but pretty basic. It was also quite cold as we only had a little electric heater.
The restaurant serves good food (pizza's of course) for reasonable prices. (but was also quite cold)
Staff is friendly.
Breakfast is ok but nothing special.
There's no shop anymore, and no Internet or TV (although the site mentioned so).

We stayed one night to break the journey between Johannesburg and Salt Rock. It is located just off the R74 in the northern Drakensburg. We were checked in by one of the members of staff and taken to our rondavel. It was spotlessly clean and everything you need was there. We did have to ask for an extra towel for our child and a cork screw. You can also here vehicles on the road but it is not very busy.
It also has WiFi access. We had dinner at the restaurant, all of us choosing pizza which is cooked on their own clay oven. The furniture is very interesting as it is made of what seems like old farm equipment!
We had an excellent nights sleep and then a normal breakfast which was fine.
Pierre, the owner introduced himself at dinner and was there again at breakfast, he also entertained our 6 year old in the playground while we ate our breakfast, very appreciated.

We stayed here while visiting Royal Natal National Park - 10 minutes drive away.

The rooms were clean and comfortable with a fridge (but no TV). Showers and bathrooms were clean, although looked a little more worn then the rooms themselves. Instantaneous gas hot water services meant hot water didn't run out.

Food was supplied in the restaurant, which was homely and comfortable, although cold when they didn't have the heaters/open fire going.

Worth spending a couple nights while hiking around Royal Natal National Park.
