“Beautiful, peaceful, wonderful”
Reviewed May 3, 2012

My aunt and I spent 3 glorious nights at Pezulu. The staff was extremely warm and welcoming. The tree houses are AMAZING, more luxurious than the pictures! The one we stayed in was huge and very private, with 2 decks! It was a very restful weekend with lots of relaxing and reading and the optional game drives in the neighboring Thornybush Game Lodge were good as well.

Room Tip: Each tree house is different, read the descriptions, look at the photos and see which one you fancy.

We had a great time here! So cool to wake up to giraffes outside your treehouse! Great dinner, great people, great value!

Not that bad, but much too expensive for what you get, compared to other similar accomodations (regardless it is a tree house). Game drives are optional and totally far too expensive.

We are traveling for about 10 years to SA and this was our worst stay ever! The old tree lodges are very basic, breakfast is very poor, diner was not so bad, there was no warm welcome feeling.
Finaly, we were stripped by ordering game drives. This lodge asks for a game drive R495pp, this is 2 to 3 times more then other lodges in a big 5 area. Sorry we won't visit this place again!
For the same amount spending, you better go to Nkomazi game reserve, Casart game lodge or Nzumba game reserve!!

I am very suprised about this bad review as I spoke to these guests during dinner in our outdoor boma and they did not complain about anything to me...

"Worst stay ever" sounds very exaggerated. The guests stayed in a beautiful, spacious family treehouse with two bedrooms, one indoor bathroom with a corner bath surrounded by windows, one outdoor shower in a tree with great views as well as two balconies and a private waterhole for animals in front of the tree house.

All our guests get a booking confirmation with all the relevant information on it, including the prices for optional activities. To complain later about a price is unfair as this was indicated clearly on the booking documents that they received three months before.
Our game drives take place in the famous bordering Thornybush reserve and most of the time our guests see at least 4 of the big 5. The Big 5 game drives are usually quite expensive, we don't know any lodge in this area where you only pay half the rate or even less... At most lodges, 2 games drives per day are included, but their rate per person per night starts at R1850 per person per night for a standard room...

Our unique lodge is very popular and 95% of our guests are very enthusiastic about the tree houses, the service, the game drives and the food. But you cannot compare tree houses in the middle of nature to normal bungalows, they are more adventurous. Most of our guests tell us that the tree houses are more comfortable and luxurious than they expected but tree house accommodation is more suitable for open, young-minded people who want to be close to nature and wildlife and experience something different.

I am very sorry that these guests did not enjoy their stay but I really feel that the expression "worst stay ever" is definitely not what our lodge and our staff deserves. It's contradictory to the opinion of the big majority of our other guests. Unfortunately it's impossible to satisfy everybody in the hospitality industry and it's even more difficult if you offer unusual accommodation like tree houses.

We stayed at Pezulu for three nights in February. We picked the 'Dream House'. It was a bit large for two people, but very beautiful. Very 'African' feel. It has a large deck overlooking a water hole. You can see the animals come for a drink from time to time. Claude took us on a bush walk in the morning. Very interesting! Met a lot of nice people. Food was good and there was plenty of good South African wine. Great place to unwind and relax. We will return!

We stayed two nights - my wife, our twin boys (aged 6) and me - in a newly refurbished tree house, which was spacious and well-appointed. Dinner "in the round" was a new experience - not sure I would have liked it for more than a couple of nights, and there's no real reason not to allow people to change the seating arrangement - the "linear" style makes conversation difficult! The selection of food was good quality, and a broad enough choice even for our picky little boys - that's an achievement when you're catering for small numbers.

Day 1 breakfast was excellent. Day 2 breakfast disastrous, maybe because the owners were away that morning. The heaters under the food hadn't been lit, and by 8am everything was stone cold. Staff seemed unconcerned, and felt it was OK to simply light the burners, and wait for everything to heat up - not satisfactory. I asked for fresh food, and that was produced, but at these prices, a customer shouldn't really need to ask... this place isn't cheap!

All round, a wonderful experience, and the highlight of our trip to S.A. Thank you to all who helped make it so good.

We found the owners charming, friendly and knowledgeable- I'm just sorry to report the breakfast problem this way, Claude, but we had to check out leave before you were back! I'm sure it was a rare event, and I've no doubt you'll make sure it doesn't recur.

We loved the swimming pool, which is admittedly small, but more than adequate.

Having been five times to Pezulu I guess I know this Lodge like no other.

Lydia and Claude are truly owners with a big and welcoming heart to their guests. They are putting a lot of effort in renovating and/or rebuilding the old treehouses and give each of them an exquisite african touch. The new Marula treehouse is stunning...love it...well done...
Yet also the old treehouses have their charm that I would not want to miss. There are no holes in the walls, no worries.

Pezulu Treehouse Game Lodge is a true beauty, a jewel amongst the Lodges in that area because it is special and particular. The service is friendly and even familiar. This is also what makes it quite unique. The food is typically fine African cuisine and varied. Staff is polite and helpful. The swimming pool gets tidied on a daily basis.

Wait...waiiiiiiiiittttt...yes, indeed, in the african bush there are frogs. They look btw soooooooooo cute...

Regarding the night-drive which user "Juudatnl" mentioned I only say the following: was it not rather disgusting, dear "Juudatnl" to mock and laugh about other guests present in the jeep, who were ill and had no voice? Your behavior was to me, also a guest of Pezulu like you, strictly unacceptable! Guess I have found my own voice back now... :o)

Enjoy Pezulu! You won't regret it for having chosen that Lodge because it will become family to you....

Room Tip: I do recommend all treehouses
