Khaya Ndlovu Manor House
Certificate of Excellence
Reviewed April 9, 2012

After the stresses of business I needed a total getaway... a place to hide and refresh. From the website Khaya Ndlovu looked like the right retreat. From the moment our vehicle entered the warm Lowveld atmosphere I started to relax. Upon arrival at the lodge our hosts greeted us like old friends. We were shown to our generous accomodation with beautiful views of the garden and surounding bushveld.
Supper proved to be a culinary delight with an african flavour. We ate like kings and then lolled in massive comfortable couches listening to night sounds on the stoep. The glowing embers, bush smells and cognac transported me into a state of blissfull tranquility.
I remained in this state for the rest of my stay (replacing the cognac with spring water during the day). We saw loads of excitting animal sightings on our game drives, and learnt much about everything from our learned guide.
I think of this trip as my Bush Alchemy as the Khaya Ndlovu charm transformed me from weary and discouraged to revitalised and inspired.
A TRULY SPECIAL PLACE which I highly recommend.

I usually do not write reviews, but the experience that I had at Khaya Ndlovu Manor House was so great that I felt I should let others know. I recently spent 3 days (Mid-March) at the Manor House. Mike and his wife are loving people who care about wildlife conservation. You can really tell how much they care when you talk to them. The staff is top notch. They are warm, friendly, and welcoming. The staff gave us personalized attention. The meals were delicious. We were served three courses for dinner and the beef that we were served could have been found at a high-end New York restaurant.

The price is well worth it. We went on a 4 hour game drive that cost roughly $50 (at current exchange rate). While Mike could not guarantee that we would see any animals on the drive, we saw four of the big five. Many of the animals we saw were feet from the car.

The accommodations were luxurious. It seemed as though they had recently renovated the place. The best part was the infinity pool. It looked out on a watering hole about 40 yards away. While sitting by the pool drinking a beer we saw girafes, monkeys, zebras, and warthogs. Far in the distance there was a great view of the bush and the mountains. The sunset view was breathtaking.

The best part was the walk with lions. While walking with lions is not for everyone, if you want to get your heart racing, ask Mike to take you on the walk. The lions come right up to you and allow you to touch them.

The only negative comment I have is with regards to how long it took to get to the Manor House. It took 5.5 hours driving from Jo-burg. While this is not the fault of the Manor House, it is something to consider. The positive thing is you get to drive through beautiful SA countryside. Although the drive is a tad bit long, I would make the journey again.

Bottom line - Khaya Ndlovu could charge double the price and still the Manor House would be a bargain.

If wildlife conversation and value are important to you, Khaya Ndlovu Manor House is the place for you.

We had a wonderful stay at Khaya Ndlovu and can highly recommend this stunning Lodge. The staff was very efficient and friendly and treated us and our children like royalty. Sitting on the veranda and having a wonderful glass of wine at sunset and watching the game come to the waterhole was the best experience. There are allot of attractions in this area but we spent most of the time at the Lodge because it was so relaxing and the food was phenomenal. Thank you making our visit so memorable

Room Tip: the family room was wonderful for children!

This is my 4th trip back to the beautiful bush villa retreat. Sunsets are magnificent on the luxury deck... Difficult to find words to descibe the peaceful evening atmosphere, back from a game drive...sundowners on the exquisite deck overlooking the watering hole ...the air like silk, the muslin curtains drawn back giving an air of outdoor safari luxury, beautiful African decor and candles lit for outdoor dining. One of my favorite places ever!

We spent some data in this wonderful bushvilla. The house is excellent and completely integrated in the Bush. The service is of very high quality and at the same time we felt to be at home. Mike and his wife are wonderful people with a special and appreciated love for the nature and the animals. We were very well with them and we will come back as soon as possible!

Amazing place that we discovered by accident on our way to our original designation (that was flooded). We wish we could of stayed longer as the staff were so friendly, place was so relaxing and wine tasted so good as we watched waterloo, looking for animals from the decking!! Would highly recommend!

We were booked in here during the recent floods, when we couldn't get through to our original destination. We truly landed on our feet, and, although not set up for disabled (they plan to in the future I believe) we managed ok with their help and warm, genuine welcome.. How relaxing & totally indulgent sitting outside by the pool looking over the bush to the Drakensbergs with a drink in hand. Atmosphere relaxing, food excellent, surroundings wonderful & service out of this world - felt like queens for the day!! Am planning to go back already....
