Perhaps our expectations were simply too high. The lodge and it's location are absolutely fabulous, but what they didn't tell us upfront is the fact that the lodge is used as a hunting farm till the end of 2012. Meaning: you can't get close to the animals and get nice pictures because the animals run away when they hear a vehicle coming. For us perhaps not a big deal (we have visited quite a few lodges in private game reserves and enjoyed the 4x4 experience with ranger Pierre and the relaxing pool anyway) but if it's your first game drive, you must be very dissapointed. Vuyani says that they have the big 5, but they don't have the buffalo. We know it's never a guarantee to see animals, but during our 4 game drives we did not see 1 of the big 5 (and the other animals ran of miles before we got a good view). During the last game drive the sighting of wild dogs saved (also the ranger's) day.
Although we know the lodge already excists for a couple of years, it was like they've just started and they are still settling.
Some members of the staff were very friendly, others (management included) need some courses in hospitality.
Final conclusion: good to relax for a few days, but not price worth if you realy want to go on a safari.More
