The Vuyani Safari Lodge
Certificate of Excellence
Reviewed October 12, 2011

We have just returned from the Experience of a lifetime! We spent 10 fun filled days & nights at Vuyani Lodge to celebrate our 40th Wedding Anniversary, and we will never forget it for all the right reasons. From the moment we arrived we were made to feel welcome & special by each & every member of Staff, and fellow guests. Yolande runs the Lodge & staff with a quiet efficiency, ensuring the service is top quality. Quinton, Erich, Warren (love the hair!) and Arran are gentlemen & so knowledgable and funny that every game drive is an adventure. What they don't know isn't worth knowing but they will still find out for you! Carlene, Chris, Gerrard ( great success!! ) and Phil produce the most fantastic food each time, and just when you thought the food couldn't get any better - it did! We had a south African Braie over a Boma one night which was so special.
The Lodge itself was very elegant in the South African tradition &the cleaners all worked in the background to keep the place tidy & spotless. Our room was in the main building, large room with King size bed, mosquito net, chaise lounge, air conditioming, luxury bathroom with bath & shower, toiletries bathrobes etc. and a private patio. Ther was a lovely comfortable lounge where guests could meet & chat or watch T.V. The viewing deck was great to sneak away to if you needed some quiet & relaxation, & the pool very inviting after a game drive.
The Lodge is only 30 mins away from Hoedspruit airport and you are collected by a member of staff for transfers to & from the lodge.
You don't even have to worry about getting up for the game drives at 5 a.m. as the Rangers wake you up each morning, & if you don't want to go then you can have a leasurely lie in. ( we didn't as we were frightened we missed a sighting!) we were pleased we booked for 10 nights as we saw every animal on Moditlo except the Leopard that we wanted to see. Lions, elephants putting on a fantastic show of ripping up trees etc., rhino's, George the Hippo, lone crocodile, giraffes, impala, warthogs Kudu, Daika, eagles, vultures & the list & the photo opprtunities are endless. Quinton & his team worked so hard to track the animals & find them for us, and show us the way they did this .We did visit Kruger for a day which was a nice contrast to Moditlo as it is more commercialised, but we still didn't see a leopard. But we did see Buffalo, Sable etc. etc. & had a wonderful BBQ cooked by Chris & listened to all the information that Arran & Chris could fit in over 12 hours!
I could ramble on for hours about our Vuyani experience & it would not do it justice. Moditlo and the Vuyani family have a special place in our hearts. But - try it for yourselves!! We don't regret it! but make sure you stay long enough!

Room Tip: Ours was number 3 & it was great. We could get up from the dining table & be in our room in...

My wife and I stayed at Vuyani in September for nine days and I can honestly say the time we spent at the Lodge was quite simply stunning. All the staff made us feel most welcome and from the moment we were collected at the airport by Warren we knew our time at Vuyani would be special. Carleene and Chris showed us amazing hospitality and our meals were wonderful. The times we spent on our game drives with Erich and Arran were truly inspiring, exciting and magical. We saw so much wildlife. Visiting Vuyani is an incredible experience. We can't wait to return one day.

We went to Vuyani after a week of volunteer work in Zambia. Needless to say the accommodations were mind boggling, especially compared to the mud hut type of structures we had stayed in in Zambia!

The staff was very accommodating, and wanted to make sure you were happy, content (and full!) every step of the day!

We stayed in one of the honeymoon suites which was a large circular room based a bit off the regular 'campus' of the lodge. It had a large four poster bed, and the lodge had turn down service I believe twice a day. The bath tub was huge, and we had an outside shower! We didn't use it much, as there were some snakes deciding to nest above it, LOL that's what living in the bush is about though!!!

The food.... the food was soooo amazing! Carleen, our Chef was magnificent, and I swear we gained a good 5 lbs. in one week just eating her amazing meals! She was a top notch chef, and if you had any preferences or allergies, she was happy to accommodate.

Being from NYC, my husband and I love to laugh and have fun, and Erich, our guide for most of the tours was the best ever! He has a sense of humor like none other, and you could tell he LOVED his job! Also, we were able to go on some game drives with Aaron, and he was really happy to answer any questions, and was eager to make sure the drives were never slow or boring.

All in all we had a wonderful trip and a lot of that was because of how well we were treated by the Vuyani staff!

Recommendations:
Bring a fleece for sure the temp change is DRASTIC compared to America.
Definitely go on the Kruger trip. Its a 1 day excursion and will get you seeing every animal you had on your check off list.
The Panoramic tour was breath taking. If you are a photographer, or try to be on these types of vacations, this tour gave me awesome pics!

Room Tip: Suites are off the actual Lodge and because Vuyani is set in the bush, you cannot walk alone in the...

I could go on and on about our experience at Vuyani while on honeymoon and still not do it justice. We arrived after a week in Cape Town and the surrounding area and stayed at Vuyani for a total of 5 days and 5 nights. I wish we could have stayed longer as it is a once-in-a-lifetime place filled with the most passionate, friendly and fantastic people working there.

From the five star food to the elegant simplicity of the lodge, you really feel spoiled and at home all at once. Erich is wonderful company, both incredibly knowledgeable as a ranger and hilariously fun to be with. He even led us to sundowners with the lions one night- truly unforgettable!

I knew this place would be special, but we were blown away by the caliber of service and people at Vuyani. Can't wait to go back!

Room Tip: Both the honeymoon chalets and the lodge suites are fantastic- can't go wrong either way!

We stayed at Vuyani Lodge for 6 nights. We were greeted at the aiport by Quinton who took us back to the lodge, where, en route, we had out first sightings of wildlife. We saw an abundance of warthogs, giraffes and wildebeests during our stay, but unfortunately little else. Although there are four of the big five (no buffalo) on the reserve, we unfortunatley didn't to see any of them despite constant assurances that we would. We've been on safari enough to understand there are never any guarantees, however, with two game drives a day over our 6 days the lack of big game viewings was woeful.
We did a day trip to Kruger, which is an absolute must! It has a very different feel from the drives on the reserve and we were lucky enough to see elephants, lions, buffalos and rhinos.
The lodge itself cannot be faulted. The accomodation is very nice, clean and comfortable and all of the staff are very friendly and helpful. The food was excellent... Chris & Colleen do an excellent job of serving delicious and varied food everyday.... their homemade cakes and breads are awesome!
The fact that the lodge only has 5 rooms makes it feel like a real break away from everyday life.... we had the lodge to ourself for a day and it was bliss!
Overall, we had a relaxing enjoyable break away, but did feel very disappointed at the lack of animals we saw on the reserve. It ultimately depends on why you go to Vuyani, the luxury living or the wildlife. On the wildlife side it falls down badly, the living side it excels.

From the moment Justine (our guide and delightful companion for the remainder of our stay, which was really special, she was fantastic) picked us up in an open vehicle, our holiday of a life time began. Five minutes from the airport we saw water buffalo, and we knew we were in South Africa. Greeted at the door of the lodge by the delightful house keepers and Carlene (one of our chefs) with warm damp flannels to refresh ourselves, we fell in love with the place. It was everything and more than what we expected. The internet photo's are very true. Your every need and want was cheerfully fulfilled, generally anticipated before you spoke. The food was superb in both taste and presentation. You can either be busy every minute you are awake or just have quiet time, it is your choice. Thankyou all the staff at Vuyanie lodge for the most magical holiday, we have the fondest memories and brillant photoes, keep up the good work.

Room Tip: For total privacy, the honeymoon huts, for convienience the luxury suites

There is hardly anything else to say--this lodge was absolutely fabulous. It exceeded my expecations in every way: the food was freshly prepared by a chef for each meal, the room was spacious and clean, the infinitiy pool was gorgeous and refreshing, the outdoor areas near the lodge were beautiful and relaxing, the game drives were fun, and the trackers were entertaining and knowledgable.

I would stay here again in a heartbeat!
