“Very nice but over priced.”
Reviewed December 21, 2013

The views at this lodge are wonderful, the location is brilliant. The baboons , zebra and wilder beast roam. First impression fantastic. If you are just staying for 1 night one may not notice the cracks. We stayed for several nights. The food it a bit on the top side for the quality, the wine list is very poor and overpriced. The setting lends itself to a excellent meal and good wine. The rooms are ok and just about clean enough but could be better again for the price. Do not miss understand me we are very well travelled and stayed at many places in S.A. No we won't stay here again we can get better accommodation for less money. It was clear to us that the owner exploits the view to charge what she does.

Stunning area worth a stop here for a night or two, on either side of a trip to Kruger or a private reserve in the area. Lovely walks of all difficulties, and spectacular views of the canyon.
Excellent selection of wine at dinner, the nederburg pinotage was outstanding.

After a long but interesting drive from Johannesburg we reached Blyde River Canyon Lodge where we stayed for one night 25 October 2013 on our way to Gomo Gomo. The lodge is nicely situated in a Botanical garden in the middle of Blyde River Canyon with stunning mountain views. The surroundings are very nice, we saw baboons, lots of birds, and even some tiny bush babies which were nursed by owner Vicki. Thanks for letting our daughter hold one of them and be part of the feeding. Our room was a family room upstairs was quite alright, a spacious room with a king size bed and one single. The bathroom was also adequate. We had a warm welcome and a really nice stay. The staff was very friendly. The dinner was served outside, at the patio, and was very good. The breakfast was rich and plenty. Blyde River Canyon Lodge is a nice stop to/from Kruger National Park, and could easily be a two night’s stay since there are many things to see in the area. A great start for a great vacation. We really recommend this lodge. It is a wonderful place with an amazing feeling!

We spent our last night in South Africa here after an amazing trip.
We drove, allowing us to stop and see places we would have missed around the Canyon if we had flown. This also meant we had to drive back to Johburgh be at the airport in time for our 6 pm flight home, a rather long drive. Some advice from Vicki had us on our way with a good guide of how long the trip would take.
It did seem quiet after having seen 3 Cheetah eating their kill a few hours earlier, think we were still stunned by the experience.
Some confusion about our booking had us sitting in the lounge checking out the decor while relaxing.
The dinner and breakfast ,both served on the terrace were great with very friendly service.
A perfect end to a perfect holiday.

Staying at this lodge was a wonderful end to a long driving holiday through Namibia and South Africa. The lodge is located in the Blyde River Botanical Reserve and is conveniently located for visiting Kruger National Park, Blyde River Canyon and the Panorama Route, as well as the pretty towns of Dullstroom and Graskop.
The welcome is warm and friendly and everyone is extremely helpful - and happy. The lodge itself is inviting, comfortable and does have a real homey feeling about it. The grounds are beautiful. You'll see wildebeest grazing the lawns and plenty of bird life. The views of the mountains are amazing.
Dinner and breakfast are outdoors when the weather is good (which it was). The food is tasty and there is a good selection of hot and cold food for breakfast. You don't have to eat there as there is a good selection of restaurants fairly close-by. But if you don't want to drive the roads at night then eating in is a good option.
Just need to take care on the flagstone path as you walk in as some of the large stones are a bit loose and the spacing doesn't make them easy to wheel a suitcase.
