“Great (stone's throw) get-away”
Reviewed August 11, 2013 via mobile

This was our first time at this country lodge. It was an absolute treat. Nestled between a golf course and a dairy farm, Everything is done at top-quality levels. Rooms are very spacious (one of our beds wasn't great and the shower is really pokey) and quite luxurious, staff are friendly and helpful. The grounds are the best part. Food is good for hotel fare. Lots to see nearby: Melrose House, the dairy farm, Paul Kruger house, and even the nearby trading post. Great get-away 30 min from Joburg. Not cheap, but still good value. Will definitely be back.

My family and I spent a few days at this hotel. Although it is just a stones throw from Johannesburg it felt like a county side visit, with the access to the Irene Farm.
Service was great, although the underfloor heating and aircon did not work well. Also the hot water available in the shower was limited. Overall we enjoyed it....

I visited the spa for a mani-pedi. The establishment is beautifully tranquil and peaceful. I felt very relaxed. The staff are friendly, although my beauty therapist could've taken more care on the mani-pedi. A bit dissapointing.

This lodge is in a beautiful location and the rooms really are very pretty at first glance. Unfortunately there are too many small wrong for this place to be rated as any more than average. First of all, the aircon did not work in a few of our rooms (we were there in a group). Second, there was one room which did not have hot water. Then, the hair dryer in my room had an adaptor which did not fit into any of the plugs in the room! When I phoned housekeeping, they did bring a new plug but collected it again so the next morning I had the same issue! What on earth?! Who puts appliances in the room that guests cannot use?! So overall a little dissapointed...

Been here many times. Fantastic location & setting. They've just never been able to get the restaurant service right. Booked breakfast for 4 @10:00, a la carte. Arrived at 10:03, no trace of our booking. To make it worse, they don't serve a la carte breakfast and the buffet breakfast ends at 10:30 !!
After swallowing down buffet we had no intention to have, we moved to the lovely outside area to continue our morning with friends over coffee. After chatting for an hour, nobody came to take any orders. So we left.
Someone professional needs to run this beautiful establishment

Remember Irene Country Lodge have strict no cash policy. Pay with credit card. Friendly staff.
Various options for functions.
Can get busy in breakfast lounge during week when businesses host Indabas and all attendees rush to eat breakfast.
Remember a jersey or similar if you stay over as weather can change and setting next to small "lake" adds a bit to colder nights and mornings.

We had an amazing stay at the Irene Country Lodge. It is one of the most romantic places that I have ever stayed. Our room was very private, and our private balcony looked over dense forest, which was really beautiful. The decor was luxurious and the service, first class.
