The Vineyard on Ballito
Ranked #1 of 23 Ballito B&B and Inns
Certificate of Excellence
Reviewed February 23, 2010

We stayed at the Vineyard on Ballito for 3 days/2 nights, and although the bed-and-breakfast seemed nice enough, we were not impressed with our surroundings or with the service, especially since it is a 5 star B&B establishment.
Breakfast was great though, home-made scones, fresh fruit salad, cooked breakfast, etc.
The Vineyard on Ballito is not located near to the beach or near to any other place of interest, so refrain from staying here if you do not have your own transportation. We are generally all for walking, but the climb from the beach is quite steep coming back, so to be taken into consideration. Apart from the beach, the only other place of interest is the mall/shopping center in Ballito, which is quite small and not very interesting, and unreachable on foot (you have to take a taxi there and back). So all in all, the Vineyard on Ballito is fine if you prefer to have a very quiet time, either at the pool of the hotel, or in your room, or balcony.
Another thing to keep in mind, there is no staff on the premises from +/-16:00 every day, although they are reachable via phone after that time.

We are extremely sorry that the South African hospitality which was well meant did in actual fact not reach home.
To be able to do justice to us and our beautiful surroundings - we would appreciate to know which part of our surroundings and services was lacking as we would certainly try out utmost best to improve wherever possible.
For those who do not know - we do live on the ridge of Ballito and for that we are blessed with a 180 degree sea view, from which we can appreciate the whales, dolphins and breathtaking sunrises and the most romantic moonlight ambience.
The services of transport to and fro as far as Durban and beyond is arranged with absolute pleasure.
Day trips or nights away trips to the beautiful game parks is also arranged by us with pleasure which is merely at the most two to two and half hours drive away, not to mention the tour offered on a three hour drive to the snow capped Drakensberg in winter.
Our boasting of being a mere 15 minutes drive away from the new King Shaka airport is just another privilege which our appreciated guest is offered by staying with us.
We hereby appreciate the constructive critism and would certainly try out utmost best to be five star B&B at all times.

After a long drive what better than being greeted with a friendly smile and the offer of the drink of our choice while we completed the inevitable paperwork.

The room was clean and spacious, the bed comfortable and breakfast excellent - shame about the weather!

Excellent value for money as was the restaurant the owner recommended to us for that evening.

One matter of note, however, for the more nervous traveller, the owners do not stay on site overnight and, whilst we felt completely comfortable and the panic button in the room had been pointed out to us (plus the owners advised there could be there in minutes, if we were to call them) there would be a possibility that you could be in the only room occupied at the time of your stay (unlikely though we feel due to the quality of the property). This arrangement does seem quite normal in the region so a question to be asked generally if you do have a concern.

The Vineyard is more like a boutique hotel that a B+B. Due to local regulations it is limited to six rooms. All of them are spacious, including a huge bathroom. A special treat is the "Honeymoon Room", which offers a huge tub and a double shower.
Five of the six rooms in The Vineyard offer an excellent view at the sea, thanks to the location halfway up a steep slope. Each room has its own private balcony.
The staff at the Vineyard is extremely attentive and very efficient. The breakfast experience is outstanding, with a huge variety of food, including house-baked bread. Since some of the staff really like baking, they may also surprise you with a nice cake in the afternoon.
Ballito is located less than 45 minutes from Durban city centre, so that staying there is an interesting option when you have to do business in Durban. The fact that The Vineyard has wireless Internet is also an asset.
