Having stayed at the Fairmont in Abu Dhabi last year, we fully expected something similar
this time. What we actually received was exactly as outlined in the bad reviews previously submitted. In addition we had a toilet seat that was hanging off, and a sink plug that failed to work.
Minor issues perhaps, but when added to all the other problems mentioned, it does illustrate
just how poor this apparent 5 star hotel currently is. Whilst noting there is a refurbishment programme planned, perhaps someone could advise (1) why did Fairmont continue to take bookings, (2) why was no reduction in the rates given (3) could they not have advised their clients
at the booking stage and let them decide if they still want to continue.

An overrated tired hotel not worthy of the 5 star rating in my opinion. Investments and upgrades mentioned by Management not yet in evidence.

Food average - No covers on buffet breakfast with fruit and bread often covered in flies.

Slow service. A real disappointment

My partner and I had a romantic get away at Zimbali Lodge in Ballito, last year 2012 in April. The reception was most welcoming and we were greeted like long lost family members. We were given drinks as we got into the hotel and wipes to refresh us. The service was excellent and the rooms were to die for!

The restaurants were well presented and a delightful spread of every kind of food was on display. The view from our room over looked the sea and most of the lodge which was fantastic.

I recommend this get away to everyone who wants a romantic weekend away or just a break!

Room Tip: Corner suites are large and sunny and very private.

Came for a long weekend. Towels in bedroom torn and stained. The covers for the cushions around the swimming pool were actually shredded they were in such shocking condition.
Despite " high tea "advertised, none was served.
A 5 star hotel could easily provide a choccie on the pillow at turn down, but the Fairmont could not be bothered.
Check out a very tedious process.
I have read the other reviews and it seems many guests have had the same experiences. Are these reviews ever read by a person, or are the responses all computer generated? Cme on Fairmont, wake up and jack yourselves up.!!

We had a great time here and really enjoyed our stay! Overall, the staff was very friendly and we thought the food was very good as well. The pool was very relaxing and the views were beautiful! We stayed in a suite and found it to be large and updated, and also found housekeeping to be on top of their game as well. Would recommend this resort!

Stayed a weekend here. Was an average experience. Staff that I dealt gave me good service except for the room service. Asked for an extra wine glass, never got it. Called for Ice three times befor it was delivered. Restaurant Thandi is very expensive. They dont serve authentic Indian Roti with their curries. Its a wrap that you get. They charge R35.00 for room service delivery which is a rip off. I rather walk to the kitchen and fetch the food myself. Swimming pool has broken lights floating about. A shock hazard.

The hotel has no manager on site and is run by the staff in a way that suits them - not the guests. The whole place needs a deep clean and Fairmont should shut it down, clean it, remove all the debris that's been dumped under the pool, under the rooms, to the side of reception etc and then either replace the staff or retrain them. Incidentally, the Beauty Room under the dining room is a store room with old sofas and chairs in it, so ignore the sign. Things to watch out for include...broken pool lights that float around at the end of wires, plates of food/coffee cups that get left in the common parts for a day or so, rooms are serviced to different standards each day - depending on which external cleaning company has been hired on the day to come in, a bus service to the beach every two hours or as/when it suits the hotel - not when it works for guests, room service that takes 70 mins and/or never arrives. Zimbali Lodge is a dirty, tired, poorly managed hotel with restaurant staff who skulk in corners chatting and sending txt messages - with the exception of Vanilla who singularly works hard to give a proper guest service. Mention needs to also be made of the food. It's basic, often poorly cooked and presented and does not match the menu description. It's difficult to understand why Fairmont want to brand this hotel as Fairmont. It's a 3 star resort motel type venue that's misleading people in to thinking its a 5 star Fairmont property.
