“The Tashas of KZN”
Reviewed July 29, 2014

This cafe is trendy and always full. It is located at Lifestyle in Ballito and offers a variety of food to choose from for breakfast or lunch. The cafe is attractive and of fair value. Zaras is truly one of my personal favourites to eat out at.

“Good food but nothing to rave about.”
Reviewed July 27, 2014

Just another ordinary restaurant. The food was good and can be a bit expensive. The place was very busy and staff seemed a bit confused. That can be expected though when the place is so busy. Nothing stands out about this place for me. But give it a try...just not my cup of tea.

“Big heart, big flavours”
Reviewed July 18, 2014

This is from my review that appeared in The Mercury on july 18

Whenever I have to drop someone at the airport, I always treat myself with a trip to Ballito. There is after all a fabulous little café that deserves a visit. And yes it’s worth braving the giant traffic jam that Ballito has become.
So on a bitterly cold winters morning I packed my sister off to the Grahamstown Festival and walked into a warm welcome from Maro Zaroudoukas.
I have known Maro since she first opened her tiny little coffee shop in the back of the Pro shop in Springfield Park back in the dark ages. Her style has not changed. It’s big, it’s welcoming, it’s packed with flavour. And it’s won her customers and accolades.
Zara’s is super stylish. On a warm day it spills effortlessly out into the sunny courtyard. This day it was buzzing inside. Even so early there’s a table groaning with delicious baking - fresh muffins, scones, pastries and cheesecakes. More was coming out of the ovens as the service went on.
And breakfasts have a reputation – worth their star in our recent guide. I’ve previously enjoyed the fluffy bacon and brie cheese omelette, or Maro’s home made hash brown breakfast. Today the eye settled on eggs benedict – with eisbein. Had to try that.
The eggs were cooked perfectly soft, the eisbein is cooked slowly in stock for hours and then shredded. It had a tasty pulled pork quality. Being a traditionalist, I would personally prefer good old-fashioned ham, but I enjoyed it immensely.
I washed it all down with a second cup of excellent coffee and a cinnamon pinwheel that was straight out the oven. Yum.

“Good quality food.Well presented”
Reviewed July 7, 2014

We are regular "breakfast" patrons . The food is always great and excellently presented. Do at times experience a few issues with service whereby a couple of waiters can serve one which leads to confusion at times and service can be slow. Generally very friendly and efficient staff. Will continue to breakfast at Zara. A tip. if you seated away from the main area get a waiters attention before you sit down.

“Birthday lunch”
Reviewed July 2, 2014

I was pleased by the portion size. With food that tastes this great, a large portion is needed. Good value for money too.
