Phil and Sue Millard who run the Kingfisher Country House are a smashing couple that treated us as family. The guest house is located within the Wilderness National Park. Sue is an excellent cook and provides delicious varied buffet breakfasts which can be enjoyed on their terrace overlooking the garden. Many bird species such as the Knysna Louries are attracted in to the garden. The comfortable lounge has a wealth of books on South African flora and fauna, travel and history. Phil and Sue go out of their way to provide information, suggestions and help to their guests. We will definitely be returning to the Kingfisher for another holiday.

Kingfisher Country House is a birdwatchers paradise. Sue regularly feeds the birds and you can get up close and personal with many species including quite a few which are difficult to see or shy (like the Knysna Lourie).
Sue servers a great breakfast (late - so you need to go birding before breakfast). She also makes a pass available to guests that is (a) free (we felt the cost of using the trails in the National Park were very steep, especially for birdwatchers who might only be interested in the first few hundred meters of a path) and (b) means you don't have to wait at the park HQ until 08:00 to buy a pass. She is enthusiastic and informative regarding the best sites to see particular species and equally informative when it comes to places to eat.
The Country House is situated well outside Wilderness - so a vehicle is required (it is unlikely that you will be visiting Wilderness without your own transport anyway). We felt comfortable, secure and very relaxed here.

We spent 3 days at Kingfisher & could have spent many more. Sue was fantastic in planning our days & sharing lots of her knowledge of the area - and the birds. The accomodation is superb, really comfortable & elegantly furnished. The real plus from Kingfisher was the way that we were treated - as though we were long lost friends, from an aexperience point of view this will be hard to beat. Oh I almost forgot the wildlife on offer will keep you spellbound for hours every day !!!

Sue and Hoil's home is a sanctuary while on holiday. The cooking is fantastic as is the intimate service given by your hosts, so well it was like spending time with loved family members. The rooms are gorgeous and the wonderful "lorie" birds at breakfast a reare treat to beheld!

Sue and Phil are full of great ideas for things to do in this part of the Garden Route. Their hospitality is second to none being very welcoming and friendly. Breakfast on the veranda, watching the birdlife attracted to the birdfeeders is a particular treat as the food is so good, both ours and the birds'!
The rooms are large and comfortable with the lounge having a large, log fire - useful in the South African winter. Make sure you have a warm fleece or pullover to wear for breakfast too.
Lots to do in the area and we enjoyed our walk on the half-collared Kingfisher trail in the Wilderness National Park, the start being minutes away from the house,
George, Knysna and Plettenburg Bay all within easy reach by car.

This was my second visit, and just as wonderful as the first. If you want to get away from the bussle and be treated: delicious home cooked breakfasts, coffee on the patio overlooking a stunning garden, be joined by a stunning variety of SA birds, some of which you can even feed by hand - this is definitely the holiday spot for you.
Hosts Phil & Sue make Kingfisher a wondeful home away from home, boasting a treasure of information for those who would like to explore Wilderness & beyond, and experience the Garden Route in all its beauty.
Do yourself a favour and spoil yourself - you will definitely come back for more!

Whenever I need to get away to recharge my batteries, I go back to the Kingfisher Country House. The owners, Phil and Sue, are 2 of the most special people you could meet. Their knowledge of the area is amazing. That's apart from the fact that they welcome guests like members of their family.
One doesn't have to move further than the patio to experience an abundance of bird life.
I have seen mongoose and buck in the garden. It's a mini-wildlife park all set in a sumptuous environment.
I am addicted to both the Kingfisher Country House and the Wilderness area. This is quiet place is heaven on earth and a well-kept secret.
