The Whale's Way is a wonderful bed and breakfast on the ocean front in Wilderness, a true jewel. My partner and I stayed only night there in the room downstairs. The room was perfectly clean and comfortable. With hindsight, though, we should have chosen one of the rooms in the attic with the wonderful view over the ocean. The breakfast was superb, with fresh fruit, different bread rolls, great yoghurt and muesli, ham and cheese, and different egg salads. We were asked if we wanted also a cooked breakfast, but that would have simply been too much. Overall, our stay was superb and we would highly recommend the Whale's Way to other couples looking for a wonderful stay in Wilderness.

We've spent part of our 5th visit to South-Africa in Whale's Way, this B+B being recently purchased by Jaco and Mies DE ZOETE.
The room we've occupied (the Ocean Room) was very spacious and sunlight infused. It also offered a fantastic view at the Indian Ocean and its frequently passing pods of dolphins. It was clear that our room was recently renovated and thus included a brand new LCD-flatscreen, stereo system and DVD player. The new owners provided an excellent and always varied breakfast at the sundeck with an unparallelled view at the ocean. Only the shower stall could be subject to some renovation, but we learned that this renovation item was in the works... so no complaints whatsoever. Really a highly recommended place !

My fiancé and I have been traveling around South Africa ( he is from here) but we live in New York. For the past three weeks we have stayed at several B and B's throughout our journey and both of us agree that Whales Way is perfection. Picture this: waking up to ocean views, school of dolphins jumping and then on the other side... the forest.....beautiful. Our room (ocean room)was huge with a private entrance and balcony.

Owners: very cool, stylish and helpful

Breakfast: our favorite!! It changed daily which is always refreshing since most B and B's stick to the same menu.

Room decor: clean white beach decor

Our three day stay in Whale's Way Ocean Retreat was the highlight of our trip in South Africa. During 22 days we stayed in 12 different B&B's and this was defenitely the best!
Our room was awesome, the location -right on the ocean/ we could spot the dolphins from our bed!-super, and the hospitality and kindness of our hosts was onforgettable. They were only just running the B&B for 14 days, but these guys are the best. Last but not least: Mies' breakfast wasn't beaten anymore during the rest of our holiday for sure!

As part of our honeymoon, we travelled from Cape Town and arrived via the Cape Winelands to Wilderness and Whales Way and stayed for 2 nights. The wonderful suite, spanning the depth of the house, lived up to expectations and Ali was a warm and welcoming host (Tim was away). The views are beautiful and allowed some great relaxation and reflection time. Ali's recommendations for restaurants were excellent and the tips on things to do locally were really enjoyable.
It's often said, but genuinely, we would happily return not just as Ali was so welcoming, but also because the room, views and ambience are so unique.

2 days/nights in the Ocean Room - best one in the house. Dreamy white room with a fabulous view of the ocean through the floor to ceiling windows. A jacuzzi bath stands at the other end inviting you to dip in and enjoy the view at the other end of the massive room. Some great restaurants a short driving distance away. We ate in Pomodoros both nights (it was that good!) and had a great pizza and Prawns with potato wedges and a fantastic tomato sauce. Ali's welcome made us feel at home straight away and we shared a glass of wine on the balcony with her enjoying the view. The beach is directly across the road - the only downside being the number of steps to get down there but useful exercise after the food and wine of the area. If you are there Friday night make sure you enjoy the Friday evening entertainment in Milkwood in the village and on Saturday mornings head to the market in Sedgefield - great for gifts and food goodies.

This establishment lives up well to its web site description with fabulously spacious suites with both mountain and sea views. If you're lucky, during the off whale season, you'll catch glimpses of pods of dolphins swimming by just off the shoreline - certainly a hightlight of the stay.
Despite this stunning house and its position, I was somewhat disappointed by the attention given by the owners during our stay. On day 2/2 we waiting almost an hour to be served breakfast...albeit waiting on the terrace with a beautiful view. I got the impression that the owners' attentions were focussed on the arrival of friends from overseas and, as a result, we, the current guests seemed to have taken second place. As a result of the 'late' breakfast we felt hurried along to pay the bill, which proved problematic using the telephone payment system - we were then advised that we could acquire cash at a local ATM to pay the bill. I was surprised to find the owner at my back whilst drawing this cash...I felt a bit harassed by this time as they were rushing off to Cape Town.
This was one of our more lavish spends on accommodation during our stay in South Africa and I felt is was marred by our hosts lack of focus on their business/paying customers.
Whilst I would recommend this guest house because of its wonderful location, I personally would not choose to return for a second stay.
