“Tranquil cottage-style stay with lovely views”
Reviewed March 22, 2013

We stayed two nights here, recovering from our jet lag. The situation is lovely on the lagoon and we enjoyed the pedalo around the little lake, creating a cool breeze for ourselves on a hot day. Tim, the Manager, could not have been more helpful or friendly and Judge makes wonderful scones! Our room perhaps had a surfeit of African masks looking down on us while we slept, but it was comfortable and the bathroom was lovely with two sinks! What my husband would do for that at home! The breakfasts were very generous and we were lucky to have both outside. The beach is not far and the views all round are spectacular if you drive up towards the Map of Africa from the village. Truly memorable stay.

Room Tip: The Boathouse room looked lovely but is directly under Reception, though Tim tries to keep his footf...

On our recent trip to SA we stayed here for 2 nights. The guest cottages are all individual with a little outside seating area. The decor inside was stunning, very tasteful African artifacts and a wonderful enormous bathroom complete with candles and soft bathrobes. The breakfast on the terrace looking down the river was lovely, such a peaceful start to the day.The owner was very attentive asking us at breakfast if we had slept well and could they help with any plans for the day. They organised restaurants for us to have dinner and the recommendations were excellent. The whole area is lovely and we will definitely go back.M,D.&S from UK

This Guest Lodge was a wonderful find. It is relatively small and compact, but the guest cottages are very large and comfortable, facing the lagoon, in a quiet area away from traffic or other disturbances. Superb breakfasts are served on the spacious deck. Upmarket, attractive, with friendly and attentive service, and with excellent advice on things to do in the area, walking trails, restaurants etc. They also have their own canoes if you want to venture up the lagoon.

It is situated about a 3 or 4 minute drive from the main Wilderness village and is an easy few minutes walk to the nearest beach (lifeguards in attendance).

I know the Wilderness from previous visits, and love it as a good place from which to explore the Garden Route and Oudtshoorn, but this was my first time at Moontide. I loved it.

This is a delightful Guest House on the Touws River lagoon, close to the beach and a short distance past the Wilderness village. The hosts are helpful and charming, the cottages are comfortable, and breakfasts at the edge of the lagoon are very pleasant. Even in summer time there were very few insects. This place is a good spot to make tours to George, Oudtshoorn and Knysna, all beautiful and interesting areas on the beautiful Garden Route. Highly recomended

Room Tip: All the cottages are comfortable

We spent two nights here. It is in a wonderful position right on the river. We found Tim to be very welcoming and helpful, giving us very good advice on where to eat and what to do. Breakfast was delicious. Our room was large.

We enjoyed our stay so much we just wanted to stay at Moontide for ever. It tics all the boxes. Beautiful, peaceful, friendly, comfortable and welcoming. We stayed in the treehouse and I think it is their best room for a romantic holiday. It is secluded and has a balcony with a fantastic view over the lagoon. It is quite a steep climb to the room so if you are not able to climb stair avoid. Also it has an private outside shower which we loved. We spent the whole day discovering the area. You can hike, swim, shop, explore or take a canoe from the guesthouse out on the lagoon. Their is enough to do and explore to keep you busy for a week. Things to do: Hike in wilderness nature reserve, visit Millwood Mine, drive 7 passes, hike circles in the forrest trail (where Daleen Matthee) is buried, shop in Knysna or the Saturday market in Sedgefield. Tim would be more than happy to tell you about all these awesome places. He didn't mind helping us to plan a fun filled day every morning.....great host.

In summary: You can not go wrong staying in Wilderness and at Moontide. It was one of the best weekends I ever had.

Wilderness was our first destination for our Honeymoon. What a start to a wonderfull week and a half. We were blessed with wonderful weather, this added to the excellent service provided by the Moontide staff and beautiful room. Breakfast and evenings on the banks were amazing. Friendy hosts and animals. Moontide wil see us again, this time for a week or more.

Room Tip: Treetop Room - Very private and stunning views.
