My wife and I stopped for lunch at the recently opened Salinas Beach Restaurant situated right on the dunes in Wilderness. The architecture and decor of this new building is really attractive and quite in keeping with the wonderful setting right on the beach. Food at this stage was only being served on the first floor with the second floor being used only for serving drinks but the manager said they do plan to serve food on the second floor as soon as they felt comfortable that the food service was up to scratch on the first floor. As can be expected the service was somewhat amateurish as the staff were all just learning the ropes. The winelist was competitively priced and was well chosen with an excellent choice of wines for all tastes. The food menu was quite exiting and original but we felt that the chef was not quite up to transferring the same meaning to the plate. My wife's prawns were certainly from a mixed bag and the quality a bit suspect. Would we go back? Most certainly we will be back in a few weeks time as this restaurant has great potential and just needs time to get through the learning curve.
