“An incredible dining experience”
Reviewed November 12, 2013

We decided to have the taster menu with wines recommended by Rudolf. The food and service is worthy of a Michelin star at least! The menu and wines were introduced to us by Joseph at every course and boy does he know his wines. He must have had a good teacher! The food prepared by Lizelle was awesome and she took time to come in to the restaurant and speak with her guests. All in all a phenomenal experience. Many congratulations. You should open up a place in Scotland!

“Best restaurant in South Africa (possibly)”
Reviewed October 26, 2013

We wanted to go here for a long time and finally managed it. Well worth the wait, while we sat in front of the fire with our apperitif, the chef came out and explained all the courses and then during the meal, the wine. The food was absolutely amazing, every single course. This place is well deserved of all its awards. Do not visit Wilderness without going there!

“Great expectations!”
Reviewed October 8, 2013

While the food was obviously locally sourced the "beforehand" presentation was misleading and pretentious. Although the food was good and well presented, it was pricey. Lovely setting and the service was good.

Lizelle S, Owner at Serendipity Restaurant, responded to this review, October 12, 2013
Dear Catherine P,
Thank you for taking the time for this review. It is a great sadness that this is how you perceived Serendipity & what we aim to achieve. Your remarks about the presentation being misleading and pretentious is exactly why we offer our guests the option to hear about the menu or not. It is easy to give you a menu and let you try to figure out what is going on. This is NOT the kind of dining experience we wish for our guests.
Our clients, of whom many are foreigners to South Africa will not know what some of the indigenous locally sourced ingredients on our constantly changing menu, such as waterblommetjies, madumbi, mieliepap, eland and amasi are. Because we want our guests to have a true dining experience, we tell you about every exciting bit of food we carefully prepared for you. We make sure that whatever ingredient, method, sauce and herb is mentioned, it will be present in the meal.
As for the pricey side?? This is fine dining and not a steak house. Please compare our prices with your Michelin Restaurants. Let’s compare apples with apples. Everything is prepared in our kitchen. If I stated everything, I mean everything. The jus for instance is not bought in a tin – it takes hours to prepare a decent sauce – this you will not get easily from other restaurants. We give you 3 kinds of fresh, home baked bread & real farm butter when you sit at the table.
Please see the review on this page of another guest on 26 September saying: “Lastly I have also found the restaurant extremely well priced (if not dirt cheap), given the quality of the food, service and overall fine dining experience, when compared to similar establishments in Cape Town and Johannesburg”
It is a great pity that you didn’t enjoy your evening with us & our hospitality as much as we would have liked you to. We hope that this will not deter you from visiting Wilderness & fine dining restaurants in future.

“Gourmet dining on the banks of the Touw river”
Reviewed October 8, 2013

Let the promise of a truly gourmet experience and the calmness of the meandering Touw River create an ambiance of joyful expectancy as Rudolf welcomes you and makes you feel at home. Sit back and relax as Lizelle wows you with some of the finest dining experiences in the Garden Route. The menu changes, but the experience does not. Spoil yourself and book for an unforgettable gourmet experience in a quiet off the beaten track area Wilderness. Difficult to describe and best experiences first hand.
