“Amazing Stay”
Reviewed November 19, 2012

Stayed here for 3 nights and it was so lovely. The entertainment area is really nice with all you could ask for and the lodges are clean and spacious. We stayed in Dorm 3 but the other rooms also looked very good. The bathroom at the top of the house is clean and big and the kitchen is well equipped. Free tea and coffee is always a bonus! The owners are so nice Digby and Charl really made our stay and made us feel welcome. Caneoing up to the waterfall is definitely a must and renting from Fairy Knowe was good value. 100% recommend this place to anyone staying in Wilderness and would definitely come back!! Loved it.

I really enjoyed my stay here. The location is nice - away from the main hubhub of town but walking distance to the village and to a beach, as well as really easy access to a couple of trails and walk to Vic Bay. Digby is a fantastic host, making sure that you have your activities for the day organized, and know what is going on around the area, as well as helping you choose your facilities if you are moving on. The meals they prepare are wonderful, and Charles is also great at getting you settled in. I love the atmosphere that they have created. The rooms are nice, and self-catering kitchen is equipped and clean. You can't ask for more. Don't miss out on the braai - they do a great job overall of both cooking and of making you feel welcome. Oh, and the home made muffins are fabulous.

We came to this remote place late after a long trip and immediately fell in love with everything: home relaxed atmosphere, friendly staff, very comfortable beds and good advise on the activities from the people who run the place. The little house we stayed was clean, though sound isolation with the neighboring room was poor. Nevertheless we loved the place so much that we didn't want to leave... And of course the breakfast - it is absolutely delicious!! Don't miss the opportunity and order it, signing your name and preferences on the black board...

Fairy Knowe is a wonderful laid back and friendly backpackers. Digby the owner, Macie and Ben do a fantastic job in running this place. They are always on hand with ideas for days out and even just for a chat.
They put together a cracking Brekkie in the mornings and a good meal every night.
The cool thatched bar area is a nice hangout to meet other travellers or even some locals when they pop in. If you fancy getting cosy there is the reception area & couch with free internet & tv.
The location is awesome for walking or cycling to different areas of the national park and the hostel has free passes, this saves you R88 per day..!! Awesome..!! They even do free shuttles to the town & beach.
The main house has so much charm with great views of the National Park. At night you can even hear the ocean in the distance. The kitchen has everything you need and the rooms are clean & crisp.
I so wish I had more time to stay a lot, lot longer..!!

Thank You Digby, Macie & Ben....

Room Tip: Upstairs rooms have views over the National Park.

Digby (the owner) and Ben (barman and comic) were the best. Perfect sundowners under the thatched roof of the Lapa, nice chats around the fire, sunrise over the lagoon, fresh baked muffins for brekkie.....and the hammock that beckons. I hope this place remains as it is and the crew and the place never changes. I will be back as soon as I can. Beware this is a black hole of sorts....you will stay longer than planned just because it is perfect.

"The new managers have created an environment similar to the TV series "Young Ones"! A great place to get
legless -complete with loud music and big screen tv. The main self catering area is a health and safety nightmare :
one functioning plug, a toaster that has to be held throughout cooking
being the highlights. One of our rooms was filthy on arrival with a
broken window complete with many fragments of glass ( the other room was occupied). The owner said the absence of a window was not a risk as this was a perfectly safe environment. The next day I "lost" a purse from the bar area with 500 rand in it.The owners
response was to say he too had mislaid his own purse and was apparently busily searching for it - thus excusing him from any serious involvement in locating mine! This was very worrying
as he would have been the last person to leave the bar following my
departure the previous night. Wilderness is a rather inappropriate term
for this hostel as there is a constant background hum at night once the
music stops - possibly from the nearby pumping station. This was the
only accomodation on our travels that was nowhere near value for money. I could go on - you have been warned!"
