I had done this trip with the same company about 20 years ago and this time took my sister and nieces to do the trip. Expecting the road to be the same was a poor assumption as the SA roads department have an excavator in the and even though 4x4 is still required the road is almost a highway compared to what is once was. Overall our tour guide was a darn site better than when I last went up there and even though expensive this is one of the great trips in South Africa and in one of the most beautiful parts of Southern Africa. The mountains are stunning and overall a fantastic trip.
They took us in their 4x4 . The drivers are very knowledgeable of the area .Going up you do not feel the climb of the vehicle . You go through the SA and Lesotho border posts . The scenery is breathtaking . We stop along the way to take photos on a couple of occassions . It is a very windy day . We visited a Basotho village and tasted freshly baked bread and people were allowed to buy curios or give a donation for their hospitality . We took photos of the huts and people with blankets . We ended up at the highest pub where people were allowed to eat . The downward trip is scarier and even more scenic as you can see the road that brought you up the mountain .We left Underberg at about 10.00 am and arrived back at about 3.30pm .
Wilson, our driver, did a great job during the tour. He was knowledgable about the local fauna and wildlife. However the company charged our credit card twice for the trip and so far (nearly one month later) has not credited our card for the overbooking. They haven't answered emails either. If you use this tour company, be careful and inspect your card statement.
