We stayed for only one night here but really found it enjoyable. We had the Durban Suite, which I suspect is the best room in the place - very large with wet room sized shower, twin ended bath and twin basins in the main room and separate room (bigger than most hotel's bathroom) just for the WC and bidet. Also had a huge and very comfortable bed and very good quality furniture along with free internet access, large widescreen LCD TV, DVD player and Ipod docking station.

The room had wide patio doors out to a magnificent private balcony with enough room for two sun loungers plus table and chairs. The view from this balcony of the Indian Ocean was stunning, including the ships that others complained of (but they were a couple of miles out to sea).

The breakfast was very good and served by very friendly staff. We did not use the pool but it looked very inviting. The honesty bar was well stocked and the lounge was a very pleasant place to sit and drink and watch the world go by, or read a book.

The hotel is just a short walk from the ocean and the marine walkway that runs the length of Umhlanga beach. Umhlanga seems very safe and there are plenty of nice restaurants. The hotel have a free courtesy car that they use to take you to and from the centre if you don't want to walk. We ate a very good meal at Olive and Oil. We also ate well (and very cheaply) at the Ocean Basket, which is part of a chain - I hope they extend the chain to the UK sometime!

It was a real shame that we could not stay longer here, which would have led to a very relaxing break. We hope to be back sometime soon.

In November, 2007 I travelled across Southern Africa with my son and had pleasure to stop in fine numbers " Durban suit " and " the Zodiac Suit". For the whole 4 days we were enjoying a pleasant domestic atmosphere of hotel and magnificent service. The only thing that has saddened our stay and has spoiled all impressions - was a disappearance from our safe of 900 euros and 1000 US dollars. The administration of hotel promised to investigate the matter and inform us about results, but 3 months have already passed by,and no answer has has followed.

This is how one bad action of personnel can spoil impressions created by long-term work of many people

If you need any further information on this matter please do not hesitate to contact me.

Yours sincerely
Sergey Bystrov

KimDavidson, General Manager at Teremok Marine, responded to this reviewResponded March 12, 2008

I would like to respond to the review written by Sergey Bystrov regarding his stay in November 2007.

Sergey stayed with us along with his farther and girlfriend, and on the day of departure informed our assistant manger that they had money missing from their safe. We responded immediately by bringing in private investigators to talk to the guests before they departed, and the investigators then proceeded to interview and polygraph all of our staff members (although they had no access to safes).

While I am confident that our staff are honourable and trust worthy, I took this matter very seriously and spent a lot of time and money the investigation. All of our staff passed their polygraph tests and the investigator’s report stated that he was confident that no staff members had been involved in the loss of any money. Furthermore, he questioned loss of the money from Teremok for various reasons.

The booking was made with us through a tour operator who was our contact, and who we sent a copy of the investigator’s report to once it was complete. They have booked lots of happy clients through us and were confident with how we’d handled the matter and that Teremok was still a safe environment to send future guests.

The lodge was a fantastic place to stay on the last 5 nights of our holiday. We stayed in the Durban View room which I believe is one of the largest rooms and has a balcony with table & chairs and sun loungers. The decor was amazing really modern and smart. The position of this hotel is great, really close to the beach and nearby restaurants and bars. It has a lovely garden and pool which was really relaxing.
there were a lot of little touches that made this a great place e.g. complimentary muffins all day, complimentary port/sherry in the evening, a really well stocked honesty bar, a very extensive DVD libary, CDs in the rooms, etc
The staff were extremely friendly and helpful especially in booking restaurants at a really busy time of year and were happy to take us and pick us up each evening, this was especially appreciated on new years eve. All of the restaurants that they recommended were very good.
We also had treatments at the spa which were very good, so worth booking one.
Breakfast here was amazing in terms of choice and quality, we had been to 7 places in SA and this won best breakfast for us.
my only slight change is that some of the staff didn't necessary know that much about the nearby area so maybe a little swotting up to do there.
|Obviously a lot of thought, effort and money goes into this lodge and it really works.

Teremok Lodge is different. It's stylish, comfortable and welcoming. You feel like you're staying in your best friend's home, after they've won the lottery and sunk all their winnings into the property.

Despite arriving close to midnight, we were warmly welcomed by the manager, who'd stayed late to wait for us. The Durban View room was huge. A free-standing bath, surrounded by a plethora of assorted mirrors, was sadly unused during our short stay. But the enormous walk-in shower was very appealing, as were the his-and-hers sinks.

Breakfast was indeed a feast, and was served by two delightfully friendly ladies for whom no request seemed to be other than pure pleasure to fulfill. We spent a short time in the lounge, browsing the papers, magazines and books and using the binoculars to scan the sea view, until we had to leave and return to more mundane tasks for the rest of the day.

A great start to our honeymoon. We'd happily stay here again - next time we might make more use of all the facilities - and we find it difficult to imagine a better place to stay for anyone who needs to be in Durban.

Teremok is a really special place. The rooms are all different. The house has a Russian feeling about it. The rooms are very luxury, top 5 star.
Owners/manager are lovely, great hospitality and very helpful.
Breakfast is a feast every day. Situated very conveniently from Durban center and beach.Really recommendable. We will be back.

If you are staying in Durban or the area, this place is perfect. Lovely pool, fantastic service, amazing rooms. Get Milkwood Suite or Durban View. Nice touches like walk in showers and candles by the baths, and the honesty bar. Highly recommended.

We had the most wonderful stay in Teremok. I should actually tell other people about this, because when we wanted to return they were fully booked and we had to book somewhere else which was very disappointing. The breakfast is different every morning, the managers are wonderful, I cannot fault them on anything. We had the Vladikow room which I think is the best room in the house. We will return definitely and can recommend to anyone.
