“No, never again”
Reviewed February 7, 2011

I have avoided the place for a few years and gave it another bash last week. The bed is 6 inches too short, the light is on outside the room all night and there is no way of switching it off. Half the TV channels never worked.

My Credit Card details were left on their front desk all day and when I complained the duty manager was particularly rude !

Tranquil, I don’t think so, The highway noise was continuous all night and with the short bed and outside light I don’t think I slept a wink.

Now I know why I stopped using it

Reviewed January 21, 2010

We stayed at the Ascot Inn for 4 nights in Jan 2010 and were pleased with our stay there. Very unique rooms that used to be stables for horses. The rooms were decorated somewhat plainly but clean and not worn. Very strong water pressure with hot water in the shower. Small separate kitchen was great to have snacks available and be able to fix hot tea and coffee when we wanted. No screens on the windows but usually a nice breeze throughout the unit. The cats who wonder around the grounds jumped in a couple of times for a visit. A/C unit was only in the bedroom but I believe this is pretty common in So. Africa.

The housekeepers were very efficient and cleaned the room very well each time.

Breakfast was good. The first day we stayed there was a breakfast buffet with the usual So. Africa hot breakfast items. The next two mornings the breakfasts were fixed to order with the same hot items. Eggs were perfect and the meat was fresh, everything piping hot. Cats who live on the grounds wonder thru the quaint dining area and beg. This didn't bother us, but we did see a few customers kick them away.

Everytime we were in the dining area, staff in the adjoining office were smoking and the smoke drifted out pretty heavily into the dining area. That would probably be our only big complaint as we are nonsmokers.

Internet access is only available at and around the dining area, which is a nice walk from your room.

We would definitely return to Ascot unless the outside temperatures were extremely warm. Since the units are not wholly air conditioned, it could become quite stuffy.

We stayed here at the beginning of June and thoroughly enjoyed the experience.

The facilities are quite basic but the location is lovely, the place is kept immaculately clean and the staff are brilliant. From the moment we were welcomed by Jayshree, the beautiful receptionist, we felt relaxed and at home.

The grounds are spacious but very secure with both electric fence and security guards.

Our room overlooked a lake and was extremely spacious. It had airconditioning as well as heating and even a jacuzzi bath.

While the room was spacious and clean, we would have appreciated a bit more luxury like shampoo, a hairdryer and larger towels. However we would stay there again as the location and service more than compensated.

There is some traffic noise at night as a motorway runs past the other side of the lake but this was a general hum and did not disturb us in any way.

Breakfast was a fairly basic affair with cereals, yoghurt, fruit and fruit juice on the bar, followed by a large plate of the usual egg and bacon etc. However it was served by the charming and amazingly efficient Van's, a lovely woman, who ensured that your wishes were catered for.

Lunch is not available but a small menu is on offer for dinner in the evenings. There is also a very comfortable bar. It's not luxury but plain home cooking and value for money.

One thing we'll never forget is the state of our room after it had been serviced. I always felt I left the room tidy but this maid set a totally new standard! Every item was moved and tidied! Immacute isn't strong enough a word!

It's unusual to find a hotel so close to the city yet in such countrified surroundings. We will stay there again and recommend it.
