Roughly between Durban and Pietermaritzburg, this bird sanctuary is worth making an effort to see. There is a wide variety of birds in cages but do make it for the show (normally 10.30am Tue - Fri, weekends 10.30am and 3pm), as this really shows what the birds can do and the information is presented very well with a stunning backdrop of the hills and valleys behind.

The Lion Park is on the same road so its easy to visit the two in just a couple of hours.

Basic cafe on site with burgers etc and a small gift shop.

The African Bird of Prey Sanctuary boasts a wonderful and diverse collection of raptors, all housed in well-kept enclosures. The flight demonstrations are particularly worthwhile so make an effort to co-ordinate your trip to coincide with show times.

The Sanctuary is home to many beautiful birds which are usually seen as specks in the sky high above us. Most have been rescued, and are then either released, allowed to breed, and available for us to learn more about.
The Sanctuary makes a history of each bird available, and details of their natural habitat and life are easily learned. The staff are extremely helpful and friendly, and generously give of their time to ask questions.
The bird show is well worth experiencing!
If not a traditional bird enthusiast, a 3 hour visit, planned around show time, is sufficient. If you are keen on birds, plan for longer.
