“Another world”
Reviewed December 16, 2013

Visiting Rosehurst is one of those treats for special occasions or just for a little lift when you need some inspiration. The old Victorian brick house has been filled to the brim with all manner of gifts and bric-a-brac for sale, but it is the tea garden which is special. Set against the lovingly tended back garden with its lawns, rosebeds and shrubs, the restaurant has light meals to tempt most palates. Try the scones, quiches, sandwiches, salads and the "Eton Mess", a luscious concoction of meringues and strawberries. While you relax and enjoy your meal the children can play on the lawn nearby. It is not really a place where large, outdoorsy men feel comfortable though!

“Beautiful restaurant”
Reviewed November 16, 2013

I love this restaurant and try to go back there every time that I'm in PMB! The garden is spectacular, the service relaxed and the food wonderful and creative. As soon as you enter, you feel like you have wondered into another world.

“A hidden gem!”
Reviewed October 28, 2013

What a wonderful experience! What looks to be an ordinary building from the outside, turns out to be this magical paradise as you enter. I can not say enough about the beautiful gardens and service at this quaint place. The food and atmosphere is just a perfect place to enjoy a casual lunch or tea. Pierre is a great host and makes you feel relaxed and comfortable from the moment that you arrive. If you are looking for a good coffee, in Pietermaritzburg then make sure you head here. With the lunch menu always changing its a wonderful experience eating here while admiring the great garden. Keep up the great work Rosehurst, we will be back!

“Maritzburg's Secret Garden”
Reviewed August 13, 2013

Going to Rosehurst is like stepping back in time. It encompasses all the old world charm of Pietermaritzburg in a neat little red brick building surrounded by exquisite gardens. The food is consistently good, although the menu rarely changes. The vibe is warm, friendly and completely charming. Booking is essential especially if the party is bigger than four people. The decadent milkshake of the day, cappuccinos and chocolate scones are a must if you visit!
