Not to take anything away from the spectacular view, or well appointed and luxurious rooms, but the warm and friendly welcome of Andre and Bessie , far outweighs the rest. Making this accomodation the best in africa!

Not my idea of normal accommodation. the worst accommodation after 20yrs of visiting wonderful South Africa.
The owners put themselves first as you will see by the numerous notices and disclaimers reminding you that it is there home (not business).
Disclaimers turned out to be a good thing (for them) as two couples latter found a considerable amount of cash missing from there antiquated room safes which use a key, so there must be a spare somewhere.
The property is on a downward spiral as no investment and maintenance is apparent.
Which understandable as the whole town of Margate has already gone the same way.
The town is more or less closed except for main holiday periods.
Six of us booked four days, left after two, all in agreement.
Some creative photography, the pool is a tiny triangle, there is no gym, just a bike and some weights shared with a pool table. fancy getting a sweat up while some youths play pool?
This is the first time I have had to do this, but they are just not trying or don't what is expected.

Room Tip: We had their three best rooms only one acceptable , first floor east wing.

As the owners, we are sorry to read that you did not enjoy your stay at The Albatros.
We do, however, have to put the record straight;

1) We are obliged by the terms of our insurers to put up disclaimer notices (which you will find in every insured accommodation establishment in South Africa). There are a total of 3 disclaimer notices on the premises

2) We strongly deny that nothing has been taken from you. No duplicates keys exist and a locksmith has to be called every time a guest loses a key. We are perplexed that we were not contacted when you discovered the alleged loss.
This is the first time ever that a claim of theft have been raised and we STRONGLY urge you to contact the South African Police Service to investigate your allegation. I also want to point out that from the start you were trying to be dishonest by manipulating the quotation sent to you. (documentary proof exists).

3) We are graded annually by the Grading Council as well as Portfolio and have to maintain the property and keep a up a strict standard set by the grading bodies, not by ourselves.

4) Our pool photo has NOT been manipulated. It is certainly not Olympic size, which it is not meant to be, but I can assure you that it takes 60,000 litres to fill which makes it a medium sized pool in South Africa
.
5) The gym is exactly what you see on our website; consisting of a bike, 2 treadmills, weight machine, exercise mat and a pull-up rack .

6) When you booked out after 3 days, not 2 as per your review, you were asked why you were booking out early to which you replied that there is nothing wrong with The Albatros, you play golf all day, your wives are not happy with the limited shopping facilities in Margate and that you were moving to Umhlanga to appease them.

We sincerely hope you enjoyed the rest of your stay in South Africa.

My husband and I stayed at the Albatros for four nights. It is a lovely guesthouse and we had a room on the top level with a beautiful view over the ocean. It was a spacious room with a corner bath and en suite bathroom. The room has every convenience and is very clean. The only difficulty we had was the bath plug which kept popping up when the bath is filled. One had to plug it in repeatedly before it "sticks".

The breakfasts were delicious and consist of a fruitbowl for each guest, cereals and yoghurt to start. The warm breakfast is then prepared to each guest's individual taste and was hearty and delicious.

The guesthouse is very safe with secure parking inside the property. I graded the location as average purely on the fact that the town of Margate is very dilapidated and dirty. The guesthouse itself is located on a safe street and the property overlooks the ocean. It is situated close to the main street and is within walking distance. Although you should only walk during daytime. The guesthouse is a place where you can rest and there is no late night disturbances, which is something that we value highly. We will definitely not visit Margate itself again, but should you stay over in Margate we can surely recommend the Albatros Guesthouse. The place is also very clean and neat and tidy. The owners have a hands-on approach and they want their guests to have a happy stay. We can honestly say that our stay in the guesthouse was in stark contrast to our experience of the town of Margate. The guesthouse was like an oasis and the owners can be proud of an establishment of high quality.

We have finally found a Guest House in Margate to which we can escape from Gauteng to visit the South Coast. We received a warm welcome upon arrival and their wonderful hospitality lasted throughout our stay during our Dec 2013/Jan 2014 holiday. Andrè & Bessie are the most fantastic couple running the Albatros and we would like to thank them for their hospitality and the most enormous breakfasts served daily - what a variety! The immaculate rooms have a stunning view and my all time favourite was to come and cool down in the pool after a busy day on the beach. We would highly recommend the Albatros Guest House!
