Jane is an absolutely wonderful host. Her son, Paul, was also very helpful and attentive while I was making reservations. He even called the park for me as I was in another country at the time and trying to coordinate additional plans.

Jane's home-cooked meals were delicious and you can tell she takes great pride in not only serving the guests special meals but also making sure they feel at home. Her arrangements of our safari and the directions were seamless and the chalet accommodation was very comfortable. Just what we needed, rustic but homey. Perfect for those who want to self-cater, as the kitchen is fully equipped.

Thank you Jane and Paul for a wonderful and memorable stay for my me and my mom!

We will definitely recommend your lodge.

Traveling with my brother and another friend during the World Cup we were looking to wrap up our trip with a safari experience. I reserved a 3 night stay at Malala Lodge near the Hluhluwe Game Reserve hoping for a comfortable, clean place to relax after spending our days exploring. We booked the safari special which included breakfast, dinner, and 2 guided game drives and/or guided cruise on the St. Lucia Estuary.

What we found at Malala Lodge was a true hidden gem (I say hidden because I couldn't find much info about Malala on the internet ahead of our trip). From the moment we arrived Jane was very welcoming and made us feel right at home. The dinners were wonderful home-cooked, full-course meals. Such a nice treat after eating at restaurants the prior 2 weeks. Our chalet was clean and comfortable and the surrounding property was absolutely serene.

But the true highlight for us was the game drive we took with Pete as our guide in Hluhluwe Game Reserve. The depth of his knowledge of the Game Reserve and all the animals within made for a truly fascinating experience. We could have spent days riding around in Hluhluwe with Pete. And to top it off he then took care of us in the evenings at their cozy little bar where we were able to sit, relax, and discuss all of the amazing things we experienced that day.

My brother, my friend, and I cannot say enough about our time at Malala Lodge. It was so much more than we were hoping for. Thank you Pete, Jane, Paul, and Leslie for such a wonderful experience!

We visited Malala Lodge during the 2010 World Cup. Jane, Pete, Paul and the rest of the staff made us feel welcome from the moment we were greeted at the entrance. We were shown to spacious, quaintly decorated cabins with full kitchens, living areas, and outdoor patios. Our meals were meticulously prepared, and Jane came around to ensure everyone was enjoying themselves. Pete was our safari guide, and his years of experience provided us with a witty and knowledgeable trip through Hluhluwe-Imfolozi park. And in the evening he pours a nice drink at the bar as well! Situated on a few hundred acres of land, it is a great introduction to the larger surrounding areas. You may even see a few nyala or vervet monkeys on the grounds as well. We would definitely return.

Malala lodge provides a very tranquil and scenic setting for a peaceful rest or a stop gap in between adventures. The accomodation is of very high quality and the staff are very friendly. It is near to some of Africa's finest game reserves giving the opportunity to see all of Africa's "Big 5", ideally located for the more adventurous. for the less adventurous the site is very spacious and provides the ideal setting to go on quiet walks, also being able to take in the scenery and some wildlife.
I would definately reccommend this lodge to anyone visiting South Africa, friendly and helpful staff and reasonable prices too. What more can you ask for???

In addition, Malala Lodge is at the centre of the birding hotspot of KwaZulu-Natal with over 500 species of bird having been recorded in the Elephant Coast area. The Malala Lodge birdlist currently has over 270 recorded species.

Adjoining the dining room is a small reading lounge where a variety of magazines and books are available for your interest.
Malala Lodge can accommodate guests on a self-catering basis or, if you would prefer, indulge yourself in genuine home-cooked meals in the attractive thatched dining room.
Our accommodation, which nestles within the forest fringe, comprises:
