I planned a short "safari" with american friends a few weeks ago, on first arriving one is a little set back by the rustic, basic feel of the lodge. But when you consider that you're only really sleeping there, it is very much value for money.
The communal bar and lapa areas are clean and relaxed. Any issues we had with the rooms was seen to immediately and recitfied to the best of the staffs ability.
The food was AMAZING. I have a VERY fussy boyfriend, and he cleaned his plate at every meal. The staff are very accommodating, approachable, exceptionally helpful and they epitomize the "going the extra mile" scenario.
The outside fire pit is ideal for catching up after a busy day of game drives. The location of the lodge in proximity to Hluhluwe game reserve is perfect. The only thing you do need is a 4x4 truck/bakkie/van (or not a low riding vehicle), as the 5kms of dirt/gravel road to get to the lodge can be testing on your vehicle.
Overall, we had an amazingly memorable sejour at this lodge. There are 5* lodges in the surrounds but I do recommend Wildebees Eco Lodge, if you are on a bit of a budget but you still don't want to "slum" it...They will welcome you with open arms!More
