“Giraffes in the garden and warthogs below”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 7, 2012

Spent three nights at Bushwillow. Wonderful place, Julian and Liz freindly and informative and Jabu and Victoria made us very welcome and produced delicious meals in this beautiful eco-friendly reserve. Giraffes visited for breakfast, and a family of warthogs living under the cottage made for an unforgettable visit. Could not recommend it more highly, with the setting, welcome, food and close availabilty of river trips, cheetah reserve and Hluhluwe-Imfolosi park close by.
Can't wait to return

We returned after six years to find that nothing much had changed; the position of this lodge in it's own nature park, with just three beautiful bedrooms is quite unique. To observe animals from your bedroom or the main dining area is truelly a delight.
Jabu and Victoria are so attentive to your every need, but also provide delicious meals.
The only thing wrong was that we had only booked for three nights; there are plenty of activities in the area, and our hosts Julien and Liz were very good at advising and booking safari/boat trip etc. Next time we plan a longer stay, it is so relaxing just to sit with a glass of wine, yet one can walk around the nature park at some length. For privacy and service it is the tops!

We were fortunate enough to stay at Bushwillow for one night during our trip around South Africa in January 2012. What a find, the place is set in a tranquil private reserve and we were lucky to have the whole Lodge to ourselves so we were doubly spoilt.
We stayed in the Tambotie suite and loved it, the attention to detail was wonderful and the bathroom was a dream. The large deck outside was wonderful to sit and watch the wildlife, we were fortunate to encounter Nyala who trotted past and stopped to check us out. We were treated that evening to a wonderful meal cooked for us by Jabu and I have to say it was the best Bobotie I had eaten during any of my stays in South Africa - from start to finish the meal and service was excellent. In the morning we were treated to a delicious breakfast which set us up for the next leg of our journey. I would definitely recommend this oasis in the forest to anybody who wants to quietly commune with nature but still have the luxuries we all love.
We will so be back again when we visit the area it was superb.

Really great food, homemade with care. The rooms have been made to a very high standard, with some great bush on your doorstep, which you can watch from your bed...Service was also really exemplary...

We spent 3 nights in Bushwillow and enjoyed our stay very much indeed. Jabu and Victoria looked after us very well indeed. Excellent food en service from the lovely ladies. The accomodation is situated in a private game park and each lodge is private in the park. We stayed in the Tambotie room which has beautiful views and you can literally lie in bed and watch the animals walk by. The local wharthog has two babies at the moment. The tips for the next day from Liz were very much appreciated and we went golfing in the areas, visited local parks like Hluhluwe wildlife reserve. (excellent Rhino's)
We went for a lovely walk in the park looking for game and unfortunately we were sleeping when the girafe visited our chalet in the early morning.
This is the place if you want to stay in the bush with a lot of privacy and excellent service.

Room Tip: Only two chalets available an both are fantastic

Very special place run by very special people. Beautiful surroundings and walks - you never know who do you meet (I heve never before or after our two trips here saw a family of giraffes so close!) We have been here as a couple and as a family, it works for both perfectly. If you want some peaceful quality time with animal watching (on foot!) we can highly recommend Bushwillow! We will be back!

Room Tip: Tambotie room is great, totally private.

We had an awesome time exploring the North Coast on our honeymoon using Buswillow as our base of operations. Our whole week was effectively all planned by Julian and Liz, who were very helpful with making recommendations and bookings. We'd definitely recommend their 5-day package.

We stayed in the Tambotie room which has beautiful views and you can literally lie in bed and watch the animals walk by! Don't forget to leave your room and take a walk through the reserve though, and don't be afraid of the giraffe and bucks!

We took a game drive through the Hluhluwe wildlife reserve which was amazing. We took the full day drive and though we saw a lot of animals, it does get quite long. So we'd recommend rather doing two shorter drives. We also drove to Sodwana Bay and St Lucia, as well as doing the elephant interaction, which was fantastic. Each of these were a day-trip and though you do a lot of driving, it's always nice to know you can come home and put your feet up in luxury and privacy, or take a dip in the pool.

Jabu and Victoria were delightful "co-hosts" and cooked and served us the most wonderful food throughout the week. The were also always on hand to help with any question we had, whilst remaining discreet throughout.

We'd definitely recommend Bushwillow to anyone and can find little fault with our stay there.

Room Tip: The Tambotie room has a beautiful view of the watering hole and has ample space. You'll feel lik...
