“Fantastic Experience”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 15, 2013

We stayed both in Safari Lodge and the Heritage Logde Luxury Tents and although we enjoyed both the Hertiage Tents were amazing. The genuine feel of being on a Safari with impeccable accommodations. We really enjoyed our stay in the tents.
Safari's start super early in the morning and late in the day so you have some down time in the middle to read, explore the neighboring towns etc, but be prepared for that middle of the day down time.
We saw amazing animals from Cheetah to Elephants, Cape Buffalo to Giraffes... we missed the Leopard through our 4 day stay, but we enjoyed every part of the experience. We recommend the day trip to Phinda (lions) and the trip to St. Lucia for the Hippo cruise if you are looking for excursions.

Room Tip: We would absolutely recommend the Luxury Tent stay- had we know we would not have split our time and...

We stayed in the tents for three days after staying the Game Lodge... Really spacious tents and very clean with well appointed amenities... The safari guide, Bernie, was THE BEST and really make our trip one of a lifetime!! Nyala and zebra wander the grounds freely really adding to the safari feel.

Room Tip: they are renovating so get one of the newer rooms...

We had a wonderful stay at Zulu Nyala! Thanks to Anton, our guide, the daily morning and afternoon safari drives yielded something different each time. We watched drama unfold at the hippo pond when a rejected young male attempted to rejoin the pod. Another morning a mother cheetah was teaching her youngster how to hunt impala. We watched giraffes awkwardly getting a drink of water at the water hole. It was an amazing site. We also saw many very young animals with their mothers. As for the facilities, food at the dining hall was plentiful and accommodations were comfortable. To get to Zulu Nyala, we contacted Endless Summer for transportation from the Durban Airport. We received prompt service, enjoyed very pleasant company, and paid a very reasonable price. We highly recommend Endless Summer! All in all, this trip will be a hard one to top. If you enjoy observing animals in the wild and/or photographing them, you should also have an exciting, memorable time!

We stayed with Zulu Nyala with another couple, we had asked for tent #4 and 5 which are in a great location. We truly enjoyed the tents but would point out that they do not have AC, so if it is really hot, some may be bothered by this.
I felt the staff at the Heritage Lodge were someone friendlier than those at the Game Lodge, but both locations are nice.
The food was very good and plentiful, although I would like to have seen more variety of local game animals.
Our guide James was awesome; he really made the whole experience great.
We made an excursion to Phinda, and enjoyed it so much we went back two days later. We also did the school/village cultural exchange. The children sand for us, and then asked us to sing to them…it was a real treat.

Room Tip: Rent a car and drive from Durban, this will allow you rfreedom to drive to town or the various outly...

We stayed three nights in the Safari lodge tents following three nights in the game lodge. The tents are well appointed and very clean. We had two tents, one on the edge of the property which was terrific, you saw the herds right outside. The food was very good, although not quite at the level of the Game Lodge.

My suggestion is that when you buy your charity auction you stay two nights at the Safari Lodge tents, first, and then move for four nights to the Game Lodge which is nicer. That way you have both experiences, but more comfort.

Room Tip: Stay at the outside edge so that your view is animals rather than other tents. Stay in this Lodge f...

Don't know what more I can add to previous reviews. We like so many others, were there because of an auction. We spent one night in the tent which was really lovely, but the evening we arrived the strong winds created too much noise in the tent and we were unable to sleep. We asked to be moved to a different room and fortunately it was not a problem. The staff and guides were great. It really is the guide that makes the trip. Our guide was Jacques and his knowledge, respect and love for the animals was apparent from our first jeep ride. We also took three trips off site and enjoyed them. The first was to Phinda where we were fortunate enough to see the lions. Our second trip was to the local school and market. We found the trip to be enlightening and was helpful in understanding the culture and recent political events. Our third trip was to St. Lucia which included a boat ride, lunch, and a visit to the Indian Ocean.
All the trips off-site were great and would highly recommend. I can't say enough about the wonderful staff - particularly those in the reception area and Mike in the gift shop. All were extremely helpful. It's a great place for families with teens.

Guides take care of you on twice-daily safari outings in open vehicles. Compound is gated and guarded for safety. Food is excellent. Entire staff was extremely nice, polite and jovial. All were very willing to help and talk about African life and bush culture.

Room Tip: Heritage Safari Lodge family oriented while the Lodge is more for couples and/or older guests. Same...
