4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 16, 2012

Spent an evening in the comfortable tented accommodation of this lodge,a lovely experience and a treat for when I take overseas visitors in future. The food was good at the Saturday night buffet and the staff at reception very pleasant.Everything was reasonably priced considering some of the prices that are charged at Game Lodges.

Room Tip: We had a tent/bungalow near the helipad with lovely views of the bush.

We stayed overnight at Zulu Nyala heritage on route to Phinda. It is the perfect stop over when driving to Phinda from Jhb. The staff are all Excellent especially Busi at check in, she made us feel very welcome. The boma dinner was delicious as was breakfast the next morning. The whole hotel area is spotless and the beds very comfortable and the rooms spacious. Rooms not 5 star but for what you paying its exceptional value for money. We will definitely stay here on our next trip out to Phinda. As a resort on its own there is lots to do and you could just stay here and not move on to anywhere else they organize game drives and walks and it's situated in a beautiful setting, very peaceful and relaxing.

My wife and I stayed at the Heritage Safari Lodge for 2 nights and spent 3 nights at their sister property The Game Lodge between April 28th-May 3rd, 2012. Check-in to check-out both properties offered friendly personable staff, great game drives and a life of memories.

The Heritage Lodge (HL):
Reshmi (Front Office) & Kundzi (Bar/Restaurant) are incredibly welcoming and accommodating. The rooms @ HL, although small, were fitting for the environment. Zebras, Nyala, Impala freely roamed the property -sometimes hanging outside your door. Definitely could create more vegan (pescatarian) dishes and offer a variety of late night snack options for guest.

The Game Lodge:
Beautiful and raw. Nature at your feet. Stunning views of the game reserves, great staff, nice rooms, pool is not large enough for laps, but perfect for lounging. This is the property that we prefer, but both are worth the experience. We enjoyed meeting, sharing and exchanging intercontinental pleasantries with the restaurant and bar staff which included; Tuelani, Mdu, Busi, Mpho. We have already contacted them and always will!!

Our Game Driver: "Many"
I can't speak about the other drivers but I can tell you this...Many was awesome! He is knowledgeable, experienced and a true conservationist. By far the biggest personality at either property, "Many" treated us like family! To us, he is family! We highly recommend "Many", although I am not sure if you can decide who your driver will be -we just lucked out!

Overall: Must see. Must do. Worth every second....

Our 10 day South African journey did not end there...OFF to Cape Town! Best Trip Ever...

Room Tip: There are tented camps-I would recommend checking out the tented camps at the HL and the new rooms a...

When we arrived we were greeted with the best staff and customer service throughout our stay. We stayed in the lodges; the rooms were cozy & comfortable. We enjoyed walking out our room and being in the company of beautiful zebra's walking around the property.
The staff was amazing, especially restaurant manager Kundzi who overly extended his customer service to us!!!
The daily safari trips were amazing!!! Maniee was our ranger throughout our stay at both Heritage and Game Lodge and we enjoyed his knowledge and love for the animals. I recommend staying at both lodges to get the overall game reserve experience.

Room Tip: I recommend staying at the Heritage Lodge 1st and moving on to the Game Lodge. The accommodations is...

My husband and I stayed for 12 days at Zulu Nyala Safari Lodge in the luxury tents and had the best time ever. The tents were awesome with an array of animals right at our doorstep to view at will. The staff was so accomidating making sure all our needs were met and exceeded all of our expectations. Manny was our guide and did an fantastic job of making each drive a true adventure. We saw so many animals upclose and personal and learnt so much about South Africa and the bush. If you are interested in going to South Africa and experiencing all the wonders of the bush and also have excellent accomidations, food and servcie then Zulu Nyala should be on your list. Zulu Nyala also is located in a great place to visit many other sights in the area. For more info. feel free to contact me. WE LOVED EVERYTHING ABOUT THIS LOVELY PLACE!

Room Tip: We were able to stay at the manor or the hotel area and choose to stay for our entire 12 days in the...

Official Description (provided by the hotel):
The Heritage Safari Lodge was originally built in the 1940’s as a hotel and was a landmark pit-stop for weary travelers between Maputo and Durban. Acquired in 1996, the gracious building was lovingly restored to its original colonial grandeur, enhanced with new accommodation, and tastefully themed to highlight Zululand’s unique cultural heritage. With buffet-style meals in our restaurant, the wide, welcoming veranda and our ‘human watering hole’ - the pub or thatched boma, warm and relaxing atmosphere is conducive to shared good times and conviviality. The sparkling pool is always inviting, and you’re sure to enjoy browsing our beautifully stocked curio shop for a few authentic African mementos. ... more   less
