First, plan your trip during Africa's winter (U.S.'s June, July and August is perfect like a perpetual refreshing fall day). Second, take your family - your babies will love seeing the animal's babies. Third, ask for Ronnie (the best game ranger - cute too!) Fourth, ask for a pool room to ensure that every morning you wake up and your breath is taken away by the view. Fifth, bring your best camera equipment - make sure to get a 500 ml lens. Sixth, lose ten pounds before you come so that you can gain those ten pounds back with the food. The African spices will bring your pallete alive! Seventh, pack light because you can wear the same clothes over and over again on safari - the animals don't mind. Eighth, plan your trip around layovers in Germany and Paris. Nineth, bring some sleeping pills because you will be so excited you can't sleep. Finally tenth, bring some tissue because you will crying on your last day because you have to leave!

Room Tip: Pool View!

We spent two nights at the lodge and had the most fantastic time. The accommodation is excellent and the food varied and substantial. The staff are pleasant and helpful (though we could have done with more info regarding possible activities on arrival). We visited Hluwluwe park which was beautiful but we should have hired a guide rather than go it alone. By contrast, taking a safari tour at Nyala was an amazing experience - our guide, Peace, found a great variety of wildlife for us - water buffalo, hippo, monitor lizard, rhino, warthog, giraffe and more, most especially cheetah. Very very exciting.

My wife and I purchased this trip at a charity auction and delayed going until it almost expired. We are SO glad that we pulled the trigger. Zulu Nyala & South Africa was a wonderful experience and a trip of a lifetime. The staff was great, the food good and Ronnie our Ranger was the best. He was very knowledgeable and really helped make this an adventure. We stayed at the Game Lodge in #51 for the first 4 nights and it was very nice. #53 was also a very nice room as were all the rooms around the pool area. The last two nights we spent in the Tents and loved this change of scenery. We stayed in Tent #22 and found it to be the best choice as it was located on the very end of the property and had a lot better view of the animals. We decided to fly into Richards Bay and had the Lodge transport us to Zulu Nyala which takes approximately 1 hour and a half. This worked out great.
Also, after hearing all the great reviews we decided to go to schedule a last minute trip to Cape Town before coming home and this was also a great decision. I would suggest anyone going to Zulu Nyala to add a few days to the trip and go to Cape Town.

Wonderful way to see many animals everyday! Great food and accommodations. My only complaint is that the vehicles need some TLC (battery terminals and spare tires). We loved our guides at both locations! Thank you!

We spent one night at Zulu Nyala as part of a week-long wildlife excursion with Southern Circle Tours. We were impressed with the accommodations, delicious food, great service, and the meticulously kept grounds. Our suite was huge and had beautiful African-themed decor. The game drive was very memorable, and the highlight was getting a chance to see two different cheetah kills and getting up close and personal with a white rhino! The dinner and breakfast experiences were exceptional, with very accommodating service.

As we were standing by the pool watching the last bit of sunset over the valley, we heard a rustling sound nearby and suddenly a beautiful male Nyala walked right by us, about 10-15 feet away. We were a little surprised, but he didn't mind us at all, and it was an unforgettable encounter. Afterwards, we walked around the resort and saw a large group of female and young Nyalas grazing in the courtyard, just outside of the guest rooms.

We bid on this trip at a charity auction and then built a three week trip around the six nights we were to stay at Zulu Nyala. We really only wanted to stay four nights so that we could visit other game lodges so that was arranged. We were very lucky to stay at two other lodges, one in Botswana and one other in Zambia before arriving here. We were very disappointed immediately. The feel was more like a Holiday Inn than a game lodge, and the service was less that perfect. We felt trapped on a hill with nowhere to go except on a game drive to see three elephants and domestic zebras. Anything extra we wanted to do costs a small fortune, and the main goal of the owner (Mr. Shaw) is to get you to buy "one of a kind" diamonds. The food was mediocre at best and the rooms were very basic. We lasted two nights before escaping to the Oyster Box Hotel three hours away in Durban. Mr. Shaw apparently does not like his own food either because we saw him having dinner at our hotel! This is not Africa at all, it is a small fortress full of Americans who are not getting the full game lodge experience. Never again!

I really enjoyed the Game Lodge! My family and I went to visit the Heritage Lodge briefly to look around and it seemed alright, but from the words of other families- it isn't quite as nice as the lodge. The Lodge has great views and many animals walking along the property. Our room was nice and well maintained. Our second room did have a roof leak. The staff was mostly friendly and accommodating, with one exception.

The safari's were wonderful! Our guide, Ronnie, was knowledgable and informative. We saw so many animals, it was truly life changing. Zulu has 4 of the big 5 (no lions). We were desperate to see lions and Zulu accommodated us setting us up with a wonderful excursion to nearby Rhino River Lodge where we saw three! We also added on the Croc and Hippo excursion and the Emdoneni Cheetah Rehab center. We also had our guide take us to a nearby curio shop with much fairer prices than the hotel gift shop.

The St Lucia Croc and Hippo tour was great, bring your camera lens! And i would go to Rhino River again and again. Our true highlight was the Emdoneni Cheetah center, we took photos with a cheetah and went in with other wild cats.

I would recommend a massage from Diamond!
Zulu was a great experience for a first safari!
