As a woman travelling on my own I always appreciate staying somewhere that is safe and secure - Essenwood House fitted the bill for this. The location was also very convenient for me as all my activities on this trip centred around Berea. The view from the veranda of my room over Durban to the sea was lovely. The guesthouse is down a panhandle street off the busy road and was very quiet.

What a pleasant surprise to receive this review on my return from a vacation overseas!
I am so glad that you enjoyed your stay with us and that Paddy looked after you while I was away. She was under a lot of pressure with a full house but so glad that everything went well for you,. Hope to see you again, and meet you!
Regards,
John chance .

Essenwood house was picked as a place to stay based on the reviews from the web.. and these were spot on. The accommodation was comfortable and the stay was most relaxing. The place was offroad with safe parking. The hosts were most welcoming and provided good advice on many aspects of the visit. I would stay there again in preference to any hotel. Keep up the good work.

Our stay at Essenwood house was wonderful, comfortable and relaxing. The breakfasts served every morning was delicious and the staff very friendly. John the host- was most helpful in every regard- even with the weather forcast every day- always spot on! The pool area is beautifully kept and the garden beautiful. We recommend Essenwood House without any reservations to anyone visiting Durban- with fantastic restaurants and attractions on your doorstep!

Essenwood was recommended to us by our friends and family in the area. The accommodation was beautiful, so clean, comfortable and safe. The morning breakfasts were always spot on and catered to our preferences. John was so welcoming when we arrived we felt like we were returning home from a long trip away. Essenwood Guest House is central to many attractions, however, we often felt that the beautiful views and the pool/garden area was enough to keep our entire family entertained. After a horrible experience at a nearby B&B I would not recommend staying anywhere else in Morningside other than Essenwood. Thank you John for a wonderful time at Essenwood! We will be back!!!

This was our forth stay at Essenwood House and each time it is perfect for us. Every one of our requirement are met, free Wi-Fi, satellite TV, a great breakfast, large rooms and en-suite bathrooms, free parking, safe and secluded. Plus the upstairs rooms have a great view of Durban and the Indian Ocean.

Room Tip: Chose an upstairs room for a great view and a veranda

As a traditional part of our Comrades marathon experience a group of us have enjoyed staying at Essenwood House. The home from home feel has been particularly comforting after the marathon, where the rooms are spacious, beds are comfortable and the hospitality just special. Thanks again to John and Paddy and all the staff for another enjoyable stay.

This was my third visit to this beautiful guest house on the Berea. John, Paddy and the staff are so lovely and look after you as soon as you arrive. The house is absolutely charming with the most beautiful big spacious rooms with the most breathtaking views. The garden is a delight and although I often seem to be there when it is a bit cooler the swimming pool always looks so inviting. Amenities include a very well stocked mini bar, red wine, snacks, fresh fruit etc. Hairdryers and robes in every room. Nothing has been left out and this is the detail that is so important. And the rates are very good too, much better than a city or beachfront hotel in all aspects.
