Warm welcome, excellent service, spacious and very comfortable rooms and the best croissants (and breakfast) in Durban! They are always ready to go the extra mile for you. Well situated, quiet and peaceful, safe parking and well worth a stay.

Recently stayed at Essenwood House and found it to be a great place to stay whilst in Durban, particularly if you need to be close Kings Park and/or Moses Mabhida Stadiums, UShaka Marine World, Greyville Race Course and other attractions in Durban. We were there to watch a rugby match at Kings Parks and found it to be the perfect location, so close to the stadium and everything else on our itinerary. The home has that wonderful "olde World Charm", being a beautiful stately home, whilst at the same time, being comfortable and a "home away from home". Superb gardens and scenery, stunning views. Peaceful and tranquil. The breakfasts were delightful, and both owners and staff very helpful and friendly. We would love to stay there again!

Thank you so much for your very kind message, which is much appreciated. We were so glad that you liked that room, as do a number of people who want extra privacy to come and go without coming into the house. Also it is very large so perfect for familes, so it all worked out very well. We of course hope to see you here again in the future.
With best wishes, from John and Paddy.

I recently stayed in Durban for a week with a school group and Essenwood House was wonderful. As high schoolers, we weren't sure we would be welcome, but John, Paddy and Florence were beyond accommodating. After leaving Essenwood, the group longed for Florence's breakfasts and we all missed the comfortable rooms. I have recommended Essenwood to all my friends heading back to the Durban area. Can't wait for my next stay.

I have stayed at the Essenwood House on the Berea a number of times over the years, and the welcome and hospitality on this occasion was as warm and frinedly as ever.
Rooms and bathrooms are very generously sized and very comfortable. The views are great, and the location provides a secure and quiet piece of paradise, while being located within easy striking distance of restaurants, shops and town. There is also plenty of safe parking.
Breakfast outside on the patio also provides a great start to any day.
Paddy and John and their staff are great, with nothing being too much trouble.
See you both next time I am in Durban.

Andrea

We attended a family funeral and eight members of the family stayed here. We were all warmly welcomed by John. My husband and I had a lovely bright room, comfortable bed, wonderful views over Durban especially from the large balcony at night. The TV had all the channels we required, including the cricket from UK. The breakfast was outstanding and Paddy and her team faultless. It is situated in a delightful area, within easy reach of Durban beaches, shopping centres and city and easy to find from the.airport. We live in England and certainly will stay here again and will strongly recommend it to friends. .
