“Something to celebrate in Florida Road”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 2, 2014 via mobile

It's been around for a few months now, so I'm not sure why we only got to visit it now. We sat on the veranda, but from what I saw of the interior it looked quite stylish.

As the name suggests, it's got a Spanish theme, and in my opinion tapas are the way to go, though there are "regular style" full-size portions on the menu too. The chicken on skewers with cumin and paprika sauce was for me the absolute highlight. Notwithstanding what I said about tapas being the way to go, next time I'll order that as a main! The garlic mushrooms where also a treat. For me, the duck samoosas were ok, but not in the same class as the others.

The service was efficient and friendly. We enjoyed our bit of banter with our waitress on the night. She had pizazz, though of course there's no guarantee that she'll be serving the next time.

All over assessment? a worthy replacement to Mo's Noodles, whose old premises Vicky Cristina's now occupies.

“el español llega”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 6, 2014

The atmosphere is well worth it. Colourful and flavourful – this can be said of both the décor and the food. Although the portions are on the small side, the freshness and flavour surely makes up for that. The main attraction of Vicky Christina’s though is the vibrant and lively atmosphere. The décor and music displays the Spanish flamboyance expected. The mere fact that they served Spanish beer and wine alongside the normal commercial dregs was a cherry on top.

“Good food - bad service”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 2, 2014

Decided on an impromptu dinner at the Umhlanga branch. Heard good things, food was good, pity it took almost an hour to serve. Manager not interested with checking in quality or satisfaction. But the bill was brought very very fast. Wish the food had been the same. Won't be back in a hurry!

“Finally real Spanish food in South Africa!”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed December 17, 2013

There are a few restaurants in SA that purport to be Spanish but they fail mostly at living up to their claims. I had yet to taste "sangria" worth drinking, they clearly have no concept of Spanish atmosphere and the food is largely average.

Vicky Christina's fixes all of that. We went to the Umhlanga Rocks branch two days in a row and the experience was great on both occasions. Excellent sangria at a reasonable price, the availability of Spanish beer, personal service, a real Spanish atmosphere and the most authentic Spanish food I've encountered in this country. I'll certainly be back.

“Underwhelming”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed December 12, 2013 via mobile

With a beautiful decorated space and friendly staff, I expected the food to live up to this expectation.. It was very average. We opted for tapas which included calamari, prawns, patatas, chorizo, chicken livers...was ok, at times tasteless. Wine menu limited.
