Went there for a business trip and I didn't know the hotel will be so close to the beachfront like that. Spectacular view from the balcony.
Can't say anything about the food though, was always eating out along Florida Street, great place for eating out!

Room Tip: Sea Side facing rooms are the best, great views.

This hotel has maintained high standards - the rooms are lovely and big and the view of the sea and the beachfront stunning.

This is probably the oldest operating Hotel on the beachfront and to a huge extent it has maintained good standards - The beachfront (right in front) which is forever changing in standards and has definitely seen better days when it was the most popular place to be in Durban - that has changed drastically in the last few years with Umhlanga, Ballito and other coastal towns and suburbs ever continuing to be in favour. The Edward is the middle part of the Beachfront, making it a slightly better location to be - The rooms are spacious and very comfy and it offers everything you would require from a beachfront Hotel except a pool, but I suppose there is enough sea and public pools very very close by. The service has been better, but it is still acceptable and fine most of the time, the facilities are still in good order and the food is great, with one of the finest breakfast and dining areas of any Hotel in the area. It has been a long time favourite for many and still deserves to be - if I must stay on the beachfront, then this would still be my first choice, along with the two Southern Sun Hotels at the north end of the beach. It is recommended for all types provided this is the part of Durban you wish to be in and that you aware that it is not the Beachfront you came to know as a child in the seventies, eighties or nineties. It is still however close to most of the attractions like Ushaka and Suncoast and the cities markets, Harbour and temples. The People Mover public transport system works well and is a good way to get to everything in the area - take caution when walking in the the streets directly behind the beachfront area. The Edward is worth a visit nonetheless.

Stayed here for 5 nights in June 2010 during the World Cup.

The location was great - right on the beach.

The room - a family room - was large and plenty of space and clean.

The hotel however had some very shady characters hanging around in hallways and did not feel very safe. We had people playing ridiculously loud music in their rooms, banging walls and slamming doors at 4am and despite our pleas management did nothing to rectify the situation.

The hotel also lost all of our laundry and delivered someone else's clothes to us instead. The last night before we were leaving they woke us up at least 8 times throughout the night to ask questions about articles of clothing to try and get us back our clothes before we were due to leave. They did not, and then rang us while we were in cape Town to ask us to pay for delivery of our clothes (which they had lost) to us.

Incredible! To this stay I am still missing my clothes...
