A fantastic experience if you like Greek food. Try the lamb Kleftiko and the meze platter. Very small, so you must book. Service was efficient and attentive. Will be back.

“Greek Taverna”
Reviewed April 22, 2012

Being fond of Greek food, it's always been a little sad for me that Durban only has less than a handful of Greek restaurants. It used to be three, to my recollection. Then, the most popular of them was sold to a local business who proceeded to run it into the ground. It exists no more, now. Recently, the second largest of this lot has moved to a somewhat inaccessible, industrial area. So now, the only accessible one we have is this comfy, family run taverna in Morningside.

The place is very small, as it seats less than 30 people. To this you can add another dozen seating places outside, on the pavement. To me this usually speaks of good food. It suggests that the kitchen is run by "mama", who cooks only so much food, for so many people and no more, because she knows that trying for more would just produce lousy results. In other words, it guarantees "home-made quality" to me.

So, Delfi Greek Taverna is no exception to this rule-of-thumb of mine and you can expect to eat fabulous, home-made Greek fare in a relaxing atmosphere. The dishes are the traditional ones with mezze starters, always delicious, and then moussaka, lamb, spanakopita, pasticio etc. The menu is strong on shell-fish so you can expect to always find some superbly prepared calamari, squid-heads and such like. Fresh line fish is often available, usually deep-fried to perfect firmness: neither too moist or mushy nor dried out. Choice of deserts is not wide but, you can count on a rather nice galactoburico or a traditional baklava.

Remember to book if you intend to go for dinner, rather than lunch. When the place gets busy, you may have to wait for your orders.

Likely to become one of your favourites.

“Little Greek Treasure”
Reviewed April 10, 2012

A great little homely Greek restaurant that serves home-style Greek food. The mezze is great. Lamb Shanks are superb. Can't go wrong with Moussaka and the meat balls. As this is a small establishment and very popular, booking ahead is recommended. Service can be 'spotty' when very busy.Seating out on the pavement available. Dispense with desserts - go for the Dom Pedro's. They are the best in Durban. So are the hosts!
