“Hidden Gem for short romantic getaways in KZN”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 12, 2012 via mobile

We recently spent 1 night at Rain Farm as a little anniversary getaway. It's ideally located not far from Ballito. It doesn't look like much when you first see it/ drive in, but it truly is a hidden little gem. We stayed in a luxury tented camp. The accommodation was of a higher standard than what I have experienced at a similar establishment which charges 5 times as much in the Entabeni game reserve. I would put it up there with Tala Game Reserve. The room was spacious. Clean. The 4 poster bed with mosquito nets was a lovely touch and the bathroom fittings were of a great quality. The private deck area has a great view of of the hills/wildlife and there is a spectacular stream below which is very relaxing in the background. It's lovely! (I may recommend a mini bar in rooms though). Obviously the Farm does not have the big 5 but it's still awesome. The dining areas are very intimate. The dinner was AMAZING (they do a standard 3 course menu which changes daily). Hats off to the chef! The staff were friendly too. The only experience which lacked slightly for me was the Spa. When we arrived the lady was openly irritable and a bit rude to me over a confusion on booking times, the shower in the spa was also ice cold and does not get hot water for some reason. Overall we had a fantastic stay and I would Definately go back. Pricing was good and there are quite a few activities. I would recommend 1 to 2 night stays.

We were invited to a wedding at Rain Farm Game and Lodge, and what a spectacular setting to get married! Not far from Durban, and just in coast from Balito it is nice to have a place like this not far from the hustle and bustle of the city. Although Rain Farm does not have the ‘Big 5’ it still has plenty of game to keep you amused. We stayed in a luxury tent, which was more than comfortable and had spectacular views over the river, rapids, and hills. In the mornings we could see giraffe, gnu, impala and nyala from our verandah, and the resident Emu “Bruce” seemed to be constantly camped out in our front garden. The short walk from our tent (Steenbuck) to the main house we would walk through groups of warthogs and impala. We managed to fit in an afternoon game drive, which was fun as well as a private early morning walking safari. The guides are extremely knowledgeable and really know their stuff. The only drawbacks would be the shortage of hot water for the shower and the pool could have been a bit cleaner. The food was great and could not fault it. We stayed at Rain Forrest for 2 nights, which was a nice break, but both felt that it was enough
