Overall the trip was great, the room was spacious , well appointed and well equipped. The breakfast was good and the staff were very helpful.
The one downside was the lack of cooking facilities for anyone tired of eating at the local restaurants. There is a big kitchen in the house , but this is off limits to guests (no signs, so beware the wrath of the staff if you make the mistake of thinking it is open to use). The main entrance also has a sign saying emergency exit only, if you follow the sign, how do you leave? wait for an emergency.
I would suggest some simple facilities for guests staying in the main building.
The room has a kettle and fridge, and there is a microwave on a counter in the dining area.
Overall we were happy with the stay.

Thank you for your review and we are happy that you enjoyed your stay and even extended your stay with us.

Sorry about the misunderstanding with the kitchen, we are a guest house, not a self catering establishment and we don't list having kitchen facilities for guest use in any of the descriptions.
We do have one small self catering cottage on the property but it is listed as such, and has a full kitchen.

As you pointed out there is a microwave for guest use in the lounge/bar area and we have a braai facility and are happy to provide cutlery and crockery for food brought in to the house from the many restaurants 500m down the road.

As for the signage, its been up so long we have forgotten that it could be confusing, I will amend them today with the help of some white adhesive contact Thank you!

It was lovely to meet you and your family and we hope to see you in Durban again. Good luck with your venture by the way.

We have never been made to feel so welcome in a B & B before. Truely a home away from home. The Owner and Staff are warm and friendly and always on hand to help in anyway. The rooms are amazing and comfortable. My son did not want to leave. We will be back.

I travel to Durban from Cape Town on a monthly basis for work spending a week there at a time. After spending 18 months booking into various different guest houses and B&B's as I could never find one that 'Ticked all the IMPORTANT boxes' such as cleanliness (Durban's humidity can cause scientific experiments to occur in unclean bathrooms), friendliness (its amazing how many B&B owners think your doing them a favour by staying there), quiet location, and a good cup of coffee and breakfast to start the day.
I choose to eat dinner when staying as Annelie's culinary talents are only shadowed by her willingness to to make your stay as comfortable and friendly as possible. Her prawn curry is to die for!
The rooms are spotlessly clean and the beds SUPER comfortable.

Already I'm having selfish second thoughts about writing this review as I am worried that the more people find 'The Grange', the harder its going to be for me to book a room there when I travel to Durban.

We had a 4 week round trip through South Africa and planned 2 nights in the Grange Guesthouse. This was the worst decision made during our holiday. We were booked in an outside room, full of dust and dirt. Towels dirty with lots of hair on it and even the linen was horrible grungy. As we complained about it, there was no courtesy at all, the host denied everything. After a horrible night we decided to leave earlier, as this was an impertinence at its best. Within leaving we saw one of the reasons having dirty linen and towels, as the laundry was lying on a garage roof for drying...so there's nothing else left to say than please choose another Guesthouse! I really can't understand how this B&B can be recommended!!!

Thank you for taking the time to review our establishment we are extremely disappointed that you found us to be so below expectation. To reply to your points mentioned:
1. the room was full of dust and dirt. When I inspected the room after the complaint was made I did find a little dust. It is Durban's windy and wet season and as we frequently leave windows open for the rooms to air, yes there was some dust. The room should have been dusted down as it had been left empty for three nights after the previous guests departed, this was an omission on our part.
2. Dirty towels - when I asked you to show me the 'dirt' on the towels you had great difficulty in finding it, I believe there was one small mark. I didn't see the hairs. I replaced both towels.
3. Linen horrible and grungy. This was never mentioned and as we had a full house a few days previously, ALL linen had been changed and was freshly laundered so I am quite surprised by this comment. We also have top quality waterproof toweling covered pillow and mattress protectors on all beds and our mattresses are sanitised annually.
4. Garage roof drying area. As we had just seen out a house full of guests with children we had an excessive amount of linen - we have removable washable covers on all fabric chairs plus cushion covers and throws are washed regularly. When we have excess we wash the garage roof and use it as a temporary drying area. We do not send our linen out to commercial cleaners as they do not wash or iron it to our standard.

My staff were so upset that you found our place so 'dirty' so they spent two days deep cleaning all rooms. This is done on a regular basis but we brought it forward to ensure our standards are maintained.

Once again we apologise for your unpleasant stay and we trust your trip to South Africa was as a whole, a very successful one.

We stayed at The Grange and had just an amazing time. While we were only there for two days as we laid over on our way north to a safari, we HIGHLY recommend this place. Great location overlooking Durban city and the beach. The neighborhood is filled with very nice homes and the area felt so very safe, we even offered to take Duve, the house dog, on a walk. The food was great, the room was impeccable, spotless and the hosts were just wonderful. Thanks for starting our South African trip off to the best start!

Our first stay at the Grange was so wonderful that we changed our itinerary to return 2 weeks later for another few days to be spoiled by Annelie and her team. The house is beautiful, beds are extremely comfortable, breakfasts were delicious, and the service was fantastic. Annelie and her staff went over and beyond to accomodate our group of 12 Aussies and make sure our stay was enjoyable. Highly recomended!
