The location of this establishment makes it an ideal place to have a coffee or a meal... the service is shocking, the waiters and waitresses are poorly trained, they have no idea of acceptable standards, they obviously don't have sections, they are sometimes absent for 15 minutes... perhaps the waiters are doing room service and attending tables on the pavement simultaneously? When an order is taken, the table should be set but this happens after the food is served, condiments and butter always arrive last and toothpicks are never offered.
The waiters do not write things down and without fail the order will have some mistakes. On almost every occasion I am waiting longer than usual for something that was clearly ordered and I also see how other customers are ignored and neglected. The kitchen can take 15 - 20 minutes to make eggs, bacon and toast, coffee can also take 10 minutes.
The staff are friendly and they are apologetic, the food is good when it finally arrives, the prices are reasonable but the terrible service just ruins the visit.

Great Beachfront option for a weekend or even midweek breakfast after a cool Beachfront run. Whilst no "on" the beach, it is well located and has a great vibe with the best Coffee in Durban.

Cafe Jiran is located within Belaire Suites and is more well known than the Hotel. When people asked where we were staying and we mentioned Belaire Suites - they all went - Where? I then mentioned Cafe Jiran and all said - oh, okay.

Coming from the States, we are spoilt with the variety of coffee joints from the chains all the way to the little organic roasters. I was surprised at how good the coffee is here at Cafe Jiran and they have a good variety as well.

I was a little disappointed with the service though. We stayed at Hotel Belaire and went out to eat and we came in half hour before closing to have some after dinner coffee and desserts and the waiter was quite rude indicating they were closing in half hour and not too happy about us coming in so late.

Another couple came in right behind us and were cheerily greeted by the same waiter with nary a word about the closing time.

Oh well - still they do have a good variety of drinks and desserts. We did not eat a full meal here but really enjoyed the coffee and desserts.
