“Must visit the Cultural Center in St. Lucia”

Reviewed February 22, 2014

This place has wonderful art. Many estuary boats launch for the pier here. It was great to relax in the center and to take in the amazing art and the lovely locally made crafts. This is the iSimangaliso Wetland Park - a UNESCO World Heritage Site Heritage Center.

Bring a costume and have some fun in the waves at Cape Vidal. The best place to stay for us was Cape Vidal as we found that the accommodation in St Lucia was not of the best. If you do opt to stay in the cabins at Cape Vidal you need to do some shopping as there are no restaurants but it is well worth it. We drove through the reserve and stayed for two nights. The little town of St Lucia is very charming and the restaurants fine. The boat trip from St Lucia was really fine and we saw many hippos and crocodiles. It is well worth it.

A magical place to visit, but exercise care. The crocodiles were almost as sneaky as some of the residents. It is advised to shoo small children away as there is a gang who are trained to lift items of value. It is a great pity such a beautiful spot has such crime which distracts from the enjoyment.

Swimming in the sea here is not advised, the currents are strong and there. Are no protected beaches with life guards. Fantastic beach walks,
Take the camera where ever you go. The beach rides on horses were special too.

The evening boat trip is a must, so many hippos, so close. We went on a guided trip to the park but you could easily drive yourself, it's a tarred road. The beach at Cape Vidal is an unspoiled seemingly endless strip of sand, there is a rip tide so stay in the shallows.
The town of St Lucia is very safe, plenty of places to stay and eat.
We traveled with Heritage tours they are very friendly and good value, beware they feed you so much, one of our group was a vegetarian and they prepared lovely food for her fortunately lots so we could all try.
