Although hotel is old the view is great.
plenty of golf space,
Restaurant is not ok.
Breakfast is fine. The vaal river tour was a plus.
Hotel staff are friendly. Luxury room is very expensive.
Better to take classic room.

Room Tip: rooms that see the river have a great view

The hardest beds I have ever slept on and the thinnest duvets ever.
Had to make a plan by laying a thick blanket on the mattress and had my own blanket to put on top.
The property itself is very beautiful and very well kept.
The SPA on the property was exceptional and can highly recommend it.
The staff in the lounge and dining room were not sufficently trained, had to call on the managers more than once for being overcharged, for food and drinks.
Staff however were very pleasant when handling the problems.
Could recommend this hotel but not sure about the beds, would not sleep there again myself, on the other hand if you like very hard beds you will be fine.
R50.00 charge for room service was shocking and the R165.00 for the buffet menu was a bit much for what they had to offer, maybe R110.00 would be acceptable!
Used out GPS to find interesting places to go and had a great family holiday on the Vaal.

Room Tip: Front facing river room

Went here to celebrate a special occasion recently. Our room was very spacious and comfortable and had a great view of the river (not that the river is that pretty). The staff were very good and really tried their best to make our stay enjoyable. The buffet was just ok, not great but not bad either.

Only problem is the entertainment, there isn't much to do in winter unless you play golf. Vereeniging and the surrounding areas are rundown dives so you stay at the hotel mostly.

Still we entertained ourselves and had a good time in the end.

We had lunch on the Terrace and ordered from the terrace menu. We had a delicious lunch, staff were friendly and helpful, the manager also came by a few times to ask if we needed anything. You will also enjoy a beautiful view from the terrace, looking out on the river, sipping on a cocktail. Would definitely recommend this to travellers!

We stayed at the Riviera on Vaal from 28-30 June 2013 as we wanted a quick getaway from Jhb. The hotel itself is fantastic, great views, friendly staff, and clean rooms with lounge area. However, there are a few drawbacks to this hotel: (1) the bathrooms are average and brown water emerged from bathroom tub tap whenever I wanted to shower (2) the Matthews Restaurant has a very mediocre buffet menu with almost no options for vegetarians and definitely not worth R180pp, (3) the room service option costs a ridiculous R70 for tray charge (4) the hotel gym is actually laughable - it consist of three cardio machines, THAT'S IT! Nothing more. Serious improvement is needed on the gym side.

We had a business conference at this hotel. It has a lot of amenities, including golf, spa facilities and you can do a sundown cruise on their boat restaurant. Staff are friendly and helpful, and their meals excellent. I would highly recommend it for a summer weekend getaway!
