We went with Jo'burg residents and we parked near Hector Pieterson Museum. We were surprised to hear welcomes to Soweto from the locals. The museum is well worth a visit and time given to read of the history of this young man and of the context, as is Nelson Mandela's home. We then moved further down the street to an outdoor restaurant and enjoyed a lovely time having a drink and delicious snacks while watching the world go by. Our waitress was outstanding and friendly ; we thoroughly enjoyed our time there.

Visited as part of a Joburg & Soweto combine tour and wished we had just vistied Soweto. Not what I expected. A contrast of some affluent areas and some not so, but this gave a feel of how things have changed. Had lunch at the restaurant by Tutu's house before visiting Nelson Mandelas house. We had no time for the Hector Pieterson musuem or to visit he township part. I will if I return.

Only street in the world that has produced two Nobel Peace Prize winners...steeped in SA Apartheid history...little else to recommend unless you want to enjoy authentic SA shebeens

We visited this area as part of a tour to Soweto. It is an interesting area to visit and to see our recent and in fact current history. The street is of course famously where both Nelson Mandela and Desmond Tutu lived. Nelson Mandela's house is open for visits, but the home of Desmond Tutu is not.

We visited this street during our tour to Soweto. It awe inspiring to see this city and how it's citizens played a significant role in the fight against apartheid. Worth visiting.
