Owner description: This tragic museum, opened in 2002, honors the Sowetan schoolchildren slain in a police massacre in 1976.

A well presented, clear, linear, thought-provoking and excellent retelling of the events surrounding a significant historical turning point for South Africa. I was very impressed, and while it is not a happy story, I am so glad to have gone to this museum - highly recommended.

Excellent place to visit in Soweto.
An inciteful look at the horrors arising from a peaceful protest by school children over the introduction of mandatory Africaans in all schools. Hector Pietersen was a victim of shooting by police. But the actions of the South African Police that day were instrumental in a general condemnation by the wider international community, and arguably the beginning of the end of the apartheid regime across the country.
Well worth a visit if you are visiting Soweto.

A very well laid out memorial and museum to a dramatic and chaotic period in SA's history. Thought-provoking and non-judgmental in it's presentation of both sides of the story.

Do not miss this small museum when you visit Soweto. Indeed, one could easily spend hours learning about the events that led to the end of apartheid. This was the highlight of our visit to Soweto.
