“Great place and great service”
Reviewed November 20, 2013

We had a chance to stop here after a long day in Soweto & have to say, what a place. You just have to stop here for lunch if you can. Fantastic food, service was great and everyone so friendly. Walls are covered with loads of business cards from past patrons. The whole place is a must see. Hope all that visit Soweto have a chance to eat here, a true experience.

“African hospitality the African Way”
Reviewed October 10, 2013

Wandies is an establishment and a must see! But with that in mind, it's always interesting as a South African, to see the reaction it gets from tourists. This is not your normal restaurant, so don't expect 5 star treatment, being waited on hand and foot. It is meeting place where you go to experience the culture, music, people and just generally hang out! Is to food top notch, no, but its food that is traditional and not better way to get to see how the "locals" enjoy themselves. If you want a steak done to perfection, a you like it, this is not the place to go. If you want a slice of life in Soweto and to meet some really interesting and great people, then you will enjoy it.

“Pretty good visit”
Reviewed August 30, 2013

Visited for a late lunch with a 4-person tour group and were the only ones there. Food was good and everyone was nice. Was better than expected. Only slightly annoying part was a guitar player that passed his hat for collection when he was done. I felt it was an imposition. Realize it is optional, but would have preferred to be asked before he started playing for the table or he placed his hat near him for optional donations. Massing the hat made it feel obligatory. I enjoyed the chicken and beef over rice.

Worth a visit when in Soweto.

“You ain't been in Soweto if you ain't been to Wandies!”
Reviewed June 6, 2013

A place of joy in dining that captures the culture of people in Soweto. Appearing to be a "hole in the wall" one is surprised to see that this restaurant is a living and vibrant exhibition of the character of Soweto. From the buffet to stapling my business card to the wall - from the engaging staff to the interplay between tables with other diners, Wandies offers a very unique meal. I have taken groups of teens from the USA and many remember it as being one of the top memories of the entire mission work camp trip.
