We just had a quick overnight stay at the Michelangelo en route from Australia to Tanzania. It's hard to imagine a more agreeable place to stay over - I'm sorry we didn't have an extra day to stay and look around. From our limited stay there it seems the hotel offers excellent facilities and service, well-appointed rooms and beautiful buffet breakfast. A gente walk takes you to a mall packed with luxury shops and leads onto Mandela Square domiinated by a huge bronze statue of the great man, and lined with excellent restaurants (including the highly regarded "Butcher's Shop".
We had a minor hiccup with our privately arranged transport not turning up for a transfer back to the airport. The hotel staff were really helpful, with a porter minindg our bags, the concierge ringing the car company, and the transport desk supervisor arranging for a cab. Then in my confusion I left my tickets at the transport desk. The supervisor managed to ring the taxi driver who returned us to the hotel to retrieve the tickets, and still got us back to the airport in time for our flight (just). A very good effort by the Michelangelo's transport staff (thank you, Stanley!)More
