“Friendly and luxurious”
Reviewed October 31, 2012

The Michaelangelo's best asset, like all leading hotels, is its staff who serve with genuinely warmth, care and attention. The grand atrium bar and indoor terrace is impressive; the breakfast is vast and delicious and the bedrooms are luxuriously furnished and comfortable. This is one of the nicest hotels I've stayed at plus we got a great deal through trivago. It's attached to the vast shopping malls of Sandton which aren't my bag, but it's not too far from the interesting neighbourhoods of Rosebank, Melrose and Greenview.

This hotel was an outstanding break after staying in tented camps. We loved the camps that what we went to Africa for but this was a great break in the middle as we were repositoning ourselves between camps. Loved the luxuary of the bathrooms and the breakfast in the morning. My only complaint is that I wish that we would have more time there. The staff was very attentive, the breakfast was the best that we had on our entire trip. We also like the outdoor dining that was attached at Nelson Mandella Square where we felt very safe.

Dear SheriBobLove2Travel,

Thank you for your feedback.

Our continent is indeed beautiful and staying in the camps a fantastic way to experience everything however I must agree with you that some luxury in between is a great way to break the trip. We are glad your time with us was memorable and although short, it gives you a fantastic excuse to come back to Africa and back to The Michelangelo Hotel to enjoy our genuine hospitality once again.

Kind Regards,
Roberto Rosa

I have sampled the afternoon tea at many Jhb venues including the Palazzo and the Westcliff. The Il Ritrivo Lounge at Michelangelo Hotel is my favourite. The sweet and savoury treats are delicious. Aside from the usual cream scones and salmon and cucumber sandwiches there is an array of chocolate cakes, sweet and savoury pastries, a cheese board and a chocolate fountain. Earl grey tea and the Toni glass collection complete the perfect combination. Its the best way to spend a saturday afternoon catching up with the girls :)

Dear Mandira_11,

Thank you for your feedback posted on Trip Advisor. We at The Michelangelo Hotel believe High Tea still remains an important tradition and a wonderful way to interrupt a busy day and spend it with friends, colleagues and family in a relaxed environment with the soothing sounds of our resident pianist in the background.

We are delighted that we exceeded your expectations and look forward to welcoming you back again for another “catch up” with the girls!

My colleague and I have recently returned from a four-night stay at the Michelangelo. We were a little anxious about our first trip to J'Berg having heard mixed reviews of the City. From the moment we checked in, staff made us feel totally comfortable, relaxed and safe in the hotel and surrounds. The service was fantastic (especially from our driver Tony) we felt thoroughly looked after from start to finish. The hotel offers perfect surrounds to return to after long days spent in meeting rooms!

Highlights: Piano bar, adjoining shopping mall & breakfast buffet. I can't wait to organise a return trip with my partner, it's a perfect stop-over spot pre-safari!

My husband & I stayed here for a 3 night long weekend. We were upgraded to a suite when the hotel saw we were celebrating our anniversary on our booking. What a wonderful surprise! Our room was luxurious and very big. We were delivered complimentary Champagne and chocolates plus a special turn down service on the first night. Breakfasts were superb and room service excellent as well. Location is perfect, hundreds of shops and good restaurants close by. Very easy to find if arriving from the airport via the Gautrain. We have stayed in many Sandton hotels over the years, but I think it will be very difficult to stay anywhere else now. Thank you to 'The Michelangelo' for our wonderful stay.

I would just like to give this restaurant a 110% rating for excellence. I have never had better breakfast buffet in my life. I have never experienced such excellent service. The quality of the food, the service, decor and atmosphere is the best ever. Thank you especially to Alpheus, our waiter for your kind hospitality and the extra treat for my birthday. They sang for me in a choir and brought me a handmade dessert on a bowl of steaming dry ice, truly special :) I would definitely recommend this restaurant for any occasion.

We only stayed in this hotel for one night, would have loved to stay longer. It is a beautiful hotel right on Nelson Mandela Square in Johannesburg. In a good location. Rooms are beautifully appointed and the service was very good.
