We had two wonderful evenings at Chaplin's Grill. We visited twice (one week apart) and had fantastic meals on both occasions. The service was very friendly and fulfilled all our requests. There is a very comprehensive wine list and some excellent wine matching advice from our waiter.

We were on a business trip in Pretoria for three weeks and tried many restaurants. Chaplin's Grill definitely had the best steaks. The fillet with the Béarnaise sauce was just amazing. The staff was highly professional and the ambience very nice.

Saturdaynight out was at Chaplins in Hurlingham. Many years ago we dined out in Melville at a Chaplins and it turns out to be the same people.

My 300g rump medium rare with just a plain rub was superb to say the very least. I could not have asked for a better piece of meat.

My wifes 200g fillet got the same response.

Her fries were soggy, my mash was ok but my oinion rings looked like those things that come out of a bulk bag. Go up the road to Spurs guys and see how to do onion rings.

The wine list is good if not very upmarket but we found a very pleasant bottle of Shiraz that went down well.

The Berry creme bru le was great.

A very pleasant, expensive evening.

Difficult to rate this restaurant above average though the food was very good, but the service was terrible and brought the standard down We waited over 20minutes for our 'starter' plates to be removed and a further 20 mins for our main course to arrive. The restaurant was only about 25% full and although there appeared to be plenty of waiters, they were not taking note of their tables. My husband had spare ribs and was not given a finger bowl or extra serviettes. Main courses were an average of R140, but one had to pay extra for your choice of starch or any salad and vegetables bringing the price up to around R180 per plate. I didn't have a desert, but the menu offered small bars of Lindt chocolate in 4 flavours @ R20 each. A nice way to end ones meal along with a cup of coffee.
