Radisson Blu Hotel Sandton, Johannesburg

Sandton offer several hotels that provide the service you would expect at these prices. Most have "fitness rooms" worthy of a Holiday Inn in Dayton, Ohio. This Radisson has a three story gym with a great pool, dozens of weigh machines, free weights, a range of cardiovascular machines, yoga room, etc. There is also a nice outdoor pool and deck. Be sure to book the Radisson Blu on Daisy Street, as there is a second Radisson a few blocks away.

I booked in here for 2 weeks for work. Overall a very good hotel with the highlight being the 3 storey gymnasium.
Rooms were comfortable with a decent choice of channels, including 7 sports channels! Decent bathrooms as well although you had to wait a while for the hot water in the shower!
Room service was generally good although the odd occasion it turned up cold. The choice was pretty varied with a good choice of starters, mains and desserts (fruit platter was excellent).
Free shuttle to Sandton City shopping centre (worth a visit if you have time) and the gautrain.
The reason I chose the hotel was the 3 floors of gyms! This included an indoor and outdoor swimming pool, a 220m indoor running track, countless cardio machines, machine and free weights and sauna/steam room/jacuzzi. By a country mile, the best gym Im ever seen!
I also used the conference faciliites which were of a pretty good standard.
Staff were very friendly and always offering advice and help.

Overall a very good stay and I would definately stay there again when Im back next month!

Room Tip: Make the most of the gym!

Stayed here for two nights. Location is excellent right in front of the train to get to the airport (which is safe and quick) and 2 min walk away from Nelson Mandela square. Staff always very smiley and friendly. Rooms are clean and gym is well equipped and located on the 10th floor gives you a nice view of a part of the city. Would certainly chose this hotel on my next visit.

Stayed for 3 nights, the room was spacious & well equipped, as was the bathroom, though the shower door design isn't great & had a tendancy to flood the bathroom unless care was taken to aviod this. Hotel staff were generally helpful. The pool area has been done very nicely & has great views. The shuttle to Mandela Sq is a useful bonus. The downside for me were 1. staffing at the pool for drinks was very relaxed to say the least....finding someone to place an order with was often difficult & service slow & casual 2. hotel organised taxis were very expensive, I thought £10 to travel 1.3km to Mandela Sq was rather steep but not having been to Joburg before maybe this is the norm

Room Tip: make use of the shuttle to Mandela Square

The bed was uncomfortable, I could feel the springs pressing through the sheets. When I complained at reception I was laughed at (seriously!). Later, someone came to the room and put on an extra sheet (as if that would help!).

The internet (wi-fi) was so slow it was unusable. Also every 5 minutes it cut out completely and would take around 5 minutes to re-connect. On my first complaint I got put through to a helpdesk in Denmark who couldn't help resolve the problem. On my second complaint, I was promised someone would call me back but no one did.

The shower floods the bathroom whenever it is in use causing a slip hazard and meaning that you cannot walk to the toilet unless you put shoes on!

The shower is powerful enough, but not hot enough. Its only "warm".

I was staying in a "Business Class" room, which according to the website for the hotel includes complimentary breakfast. I arrived at breakfast to be told that I would have to pay 100 Rand (approx 10 GBP or 16 USD) for the breakfast. I queried this, but there was no investigation or resolution by the hotel.

The movies on demand is a good system, but some of the movies didn't work, also the price is too expensive. 170 Rand per movie - about 17 GBP or 27 USD for one movie!!!

There is no DVD player in the room, no facility to borrow one. Furthermore there is no business centre in the hotel.

The one restaurant in the hotel is tiny and the hotel bar is soul-less.

To use the fitness centre swimming pool you have to have a swimming cap or they won't let you in!

All in all I would not recommend this hotel to anyone. There are far better hotels in the Sandton area.

I thought this was my respite in Africa. I stayed here once before and chose it again and to use my loyalty program. I had to ask to have the hot water turned on and they required me to use and pay for a swim cap as a male. Really? What business person is going to pack a swimming cap in their luggage when airlines are cutting back on allowable luggage and weight? I was only there for one night and didn't have time to use the outdoor pool. I chose this hotel for the facilities. Also early in the morning it was very noisy from noise in the lobby that drifted up the atrium. It's easy to get to the other hotels now with the gautrain. I guess my honeymoon with this hotel is over and better left for honeymooners.
