“Perfect stay”
Reviewed March 3, 2010

What an amazing place, with a awesome green area around with a Tennis court, with a fantastic owner (Charles), I'm quite sure anytime i'll be back to Johannesburg, i'll not go to any 5 star hotel, i'll just repeat my experience there. i can't describe how friendly are the staff here, starting from waking up and having your breakfast, you find everyone is saying "Good Morning" and wishing you a good day, when you come back, they all greet you "welcome back, how was your day?" such a friendly environment. in my room i had a very big bathroom with a big bath and jacuzzi which helped me a lot to relax after a long day, very delicious breakfast will be waiting for you every morning. you just feel home. Charles was giving me a complementary drop off and pick up everyday, and he even took me around a city showing me some touristic places. I really would like to recommend this hotel to everyone. I hope i go back there one day.

Attentive staff, a small number of rooms not to be a number, swimming pool.
Just noisy birds in the morning.

Location. Quality. Exemplary Service. Words that can only begin to describe our experience at Bryan Manor. From the moment we arrived, we KNEW that this was the place to stay in Johannesburg--and that we had scored!

The guest house is new, while at the same time enjoying the surroundings of an established estate lot and home. The effect is wonderful--mature trees and spacious garden, tennis court and swimming pool, secluded patios and gathering spaces, and on and on. Facilities were spotless. Food and drink was scrumptious. Bed and bath was spellbinding--and whisper quiet at all times. Yet the best part of our stay was the friendliness and helpfulness of the staff. Charles has created a lodging experience that eclipses all others because of his generous, helpful nature.

One night was simply not enough time to fully appreciate this property. You must stay at Bryan Manor--but please stay longer than a day!

Charles, Karen and their staff provide the very best of welcomes to this very upmarket boutique guesthouse. Access from the airport is an easy journey given the guesthouse’s relative proximity to the N1 freeway. The visit started in the reception area, a space more reminiscent of a luxurious lounge, elegantly furnished, and featuring a library of interesting books and a plasma TV. Tea, coffee and other beverages are available constantly along with the ‘tasty treat’ of the day which is prepared on the premises. A well stocked honesty bar is available, but Charle's private stock of deluxe whisky appeared late one evening when our Scottish habit of a late night tipple was suggested. Sumptuously furnished spacious bedrooms are complemented by equally spacious bathrooms each with their own spa bath and powerful showers. Each of the ten rooms is furnished differently with a mix of old and new artefacts, and Charles described the efforts made to ensure that the best possible fabrics are used for bed linen and other soft furnishings. Charles was busy ferrying people to and from the international airport and other locations during our stay, and no problem seems to bother him or his staff – the perfect host in a perfect environment. Extensive parking is available, along with a beautiful garden and well maintained tennis court. In conversation with Charles, it became clear that he is looking to improve this virtually flawless facility in any way possible, an attitude which will ensure that standards will be maintained and probably exceeded. Their current high occupancy rate owes more to word-of-mouth than marketing, so make sure you book early if you don’twant to be disappointed. The room rates are very attractive and bear comparison to the best facilities available elsewhere in Johannesburg. We will definitely return despite the disappointment of the loss of the Lions test series. Charles did promise to donate his Boks ‘away’ shirt should his side lose, but sadly was noted to be wearing the colours on our departure!

My wife and I spent one night at the Bryan Manor guest house. This was a stopover, as we were flying out to Zimbabwe on safari for our honeymoon the following morning. I had decided to go for a B&B to get a more personal touch and we were not disappointed.

After an overnight flight from London we were happy to be met by our driver. This transfer had been arranged by Karen and Charles the owners. The driver they had chosen was very friendly and made the journey (3/4 of an Hour) a pleasant one. Although the guest house is a bit of a journey from the airport, I overlooked this and based my decision on the accommodation reviews, etc.

The guest house is situated in quiet leafy suburb. The boundaries of the property appear to be very secure and access is through an electronic gate. Once through the gate, we were presented with well kept grounds, which gave us a good first impression. We were then warmly greeted by members of staff and taken to the reception area. As we entered through the doors, the look on my wife’s face said it all; I had made the right choice for our first night.

We had booked the Wedding Suite for our stay. This, as the remainder of the property, was well presented. A special thanks to Karen, Charles for the kind gift that was awaiting us in our room.

Our needs were well met during our stay. Charles went out of his way to assist us. I had wanted to get some Flip Flops (sandals) as I had forgot mine and asked where I could buy some. Charles drove me to the shopping mall in his 4 x 4. As it was now winter, it was proving difficult to get any flip flops (unless you settled for pink) as they were out of season. We searched hi and low until we eventually found some. That evening, Charles did the honors again and dropped us off at an entertainment complex where we dined at one of the many restaurants.

Having spent a few hours with Charles, I was interested to learn about the many activities he was able to organise. Bryan Manor is definitely a place I would return to for a stay in this region of South Africa.

A special mention must go to the cleaning staff. Mostly out of view, they were constantly on the go, making the place spotless.

I give full marks to the owners. This is a lovely guest house. With the beautiful decor and friendly staff, we both felt very much at home during stay.

We had business in Johannesburg and needed a B&B that was in the northern suburbs. Our friend lives near this B&B which had only opened a couple of weeks prior. He checked it our for us and recommended we stay there. What a wonderful find. We typicaly stay in Johannesburg a couple of times per year and have 3-4 very nice places we stay. We are certainly glad we took a chance on Bryan manor because it is wonderful. The hosts, Karen and Charles, made our stay memorable. We checked in and were trying to decide if we needed a rental car. They suggested'no' as they could provide very efficient transport via some local taxis if necessary. Every time we attempted to call a taxi they intervened and drove us themselves and picked us up after our meals or appointments. Now we would not expect this on a return visit but mention it to stress the hospitality. The B&B has about 10 very spacious rooms located in a new manor house. The grounds are large and immaculate with a very nice tennis court. The staff were so wonderful that we decided to tip them 250 rand for our 5 day stay. Breakfasts are a non stoop orgy of food. Whatever you want, it is available. We had fruits, breads, yogurt, toast, muffins, eggs, bacon, sausages, sliced meats, cheeses, coffee, tea, juices. Definitely the best breakfast ever at a B&B. The rooms are very large with wonderfuul king bedsd withh hhigh thread count sheets, soft pillows, a plasma TV, large bathroom with tub and shower and double sinks, very good soaps , etc. If you ever have a need to stay in Johannesburg and be located near the major shopping areas we highly recommend you stay here.
