After doing a 3 day conference with clients in Pretoria, we did an evening "Circle" trip on the Blue Train. From the moment you arrive at Pretoria station, the red carpet is rolled out. At the station lounge, you 1st are treated to Champagne and snacks.
You are then escorted to the train, and once aboard, you can relax in one of the 5 star lounges. Canapés and cocktails are served as the train slowly makes it way out of the station.
If you wish, at the rear of the train is an observation coach where you can relax, enjoy a drink and watch the rail-track fade in the distance.
Dinner is served in the spotlessly clean dining car. The waiter presents you with the menu and wine list, and the table is presented with cutlery and utensils is of top quality. The wine list is absolutely stunning, listing top quality wines.
The dinner is top quality fine dinning, and you leave there feeling "WOW!".
The whole experience is possibly the best train journey one will ever experience...luxury at it's very best.

My bucket list contained a trip on the Blue train, am I glad I did not die before this experience. Takes you back to the days when travel to your destination was part of the trip. From the luxurious cabins (hard to believe they can fit it all in without being cramped) to the impeccable service, being on the train is a great experience. The food is 5 star all the way and the dining car is so elegant. It is one of the few things that has reappeared on my bucket list!!!

This was one of the best experiences I've ever had. A true luxury train that is pure opulence. From the oak paneled walls to the fabulous ambiance of the Lounge and Dining car this train is a true 5 star experience. The food was world class and the service impeccable. I will do this trip again

My wife has an affinity for trains from her youth and high on her bucket list was the blue train in SA. We traveled in late April Pretoria to Cape town in unit 39, deluxe coach. What an awesome experience, starting with coffee etc in the Herbert Baker building waiting lounge in Pretoria, with lots of memorabilia on the walls, excellent bag drop off and the service exceptional. Our coach was great, with paneled walls, TV, own on suite and quite spacious. We had a butler who was extremely efficient, plus the train manager dropped in to greet everyone. We stopped at Kimberley for a tour of the diamond mine and it was fascinating, i could spend longer there. On arrival back at the train we were entertained with sherry and a keep glass, lovely idea and memento. Dinner attire is formal and the meals, wine and scotch selection excellent. Bedding very comfortable and we decided to have our breakfast in our coach. what an awesome experience with 5 star service and dining.

The Blue Train lives up to its reputation as one of the finest luxury trains in the world. From check in at an exclusive lounge at the Cape Town station to the well equipped 'suites' complete with wifi and showers, the panoramic observation car, exquisite food with an endless supply of the very best wines available, attentive and well trained personnel including personal butlers - it cannot be faulted. The beds were very comfortable and the air suspension ensured a very smooth ride. On top of all this, the scenery on the 25 hour trip is breathtaking.
