Machics is conveniently located for a dinner date combo with the Grove Cinema. Boasting one of the better beer selections in Pretoria, with their bottle choices being particularly excellent, even well rounded global beer connoisseurs will be sure to find something they love. Our experience consisted of a double date with two appetizers and three meals being ordered. The fried calamari proved inedible for everyone, so fortunately the staff removed it from our bill. The fried mushrooms were bland and boring, literally tasteless, with an accompanying sauce that didn't receive one return dip after eager sampling. Chicken peri peri was cooked well, with a mild heat, tender meat, and crisp skin. One of us braved a steak (fillet). It was requested medium but was absolutely rare. Nevertheless, it was good quality. Servers were attentive, and the ambiance was casual and fun, although there is at least one too many tables in the main dining area inside. We'd go back for drinks, but would probably skip the food.
